Marseille

Really beautiful train ride along the coast (which in a way it is a shame that the railway is right on the beach) Marseille is a bigger city and not so quaint but the port area is nice. Flew out of Marseille to Lisbon. I know not quite geographically logicall

... but petty crimes and muggings are commonplace. There's no need for paranoia but you should avoid the Belsunce area. Women will get unsolicited attention, ranging from wolf-whistling to sometimes aggressive chat up routines- but keep your wits about you and you should be fine."

OK....This is coming from a guidebook that can make Somalia sound like an enticing destination. I take the opportunity to hide most of my cash deep in my pack. The train finally creaks ...

Jonny, Jonny, give us a wave!

Another month along from my last entry, I'm half way through my first semester now, and yet again my lack of dedication to this blog means I’ve got plenty to write about, so I hope you’re sitting comfortably...

First and all and most excitingly (for me anyway) was our trip to Toulon to watch the rugby. All was decided relatively last minute, the tickets only going on sale a week before anyway, but we got there and we saw Jonny! It was so much easier to ...

France sucks at Halloween

... and instead went out to a great classic Provencal dinner, and got some good wine. But then, we started to see a couple kids in costumes, or rather just kids in sheets. I think one of them had a mask. But on our way back from dinner, we found the bar scene. Mostly it was just people out on a normal Saturday night, but we had to at least go check it out. We were somewhat impressed with the Halloween scene, and probably could ...

Amorous or Foolhardy?

... write her address and draw a map I realized that something was terribly wrong. She drew a map of Corse (Corsca) - a little French island I the Medeterranian. We were headed to Corse, not Italy! The victim of not having an Italian map and too little internet time. Who knew? Propriano certainly sounds Italian to me…

We weighed our options:
1) continue on and cycle across Corse (2700m altitude ...

A little unexpected...

... churches...basically very Provencale. We drank beers and had a nice dinner in one of the little side streets.. We then ran into these 2 Californian girls who told us to go to this bar called the Wohoo. Next thing we knew, we were surrounded by 30 Californians who are studying abroad in Aix for a year. They had all just gotten off the boat and don't speak a word of French. I met more people last night than I ...

Welcome to Aix! My Home for the Next 4 Months!

... to Munich wasn't that pretty because it was dark out (although flying over the English Channel and making out some boats on it was cool), but now it was light and I could see German country side, cities, and best of all, the Alps! They were covered in snow and AMAZING! I took pictures but again that will have to wait until I get a camera hook up for my computer. We crossed into France and after about an hour and a half arrived in Marseilles, France, a ...

Southern Spain, Southern France, & THE WATER EXPO!

... us a Disneyland or Six-Flags-like experience. We were WRONG. How to explain the Expo Zaragoza....I just can't do it. We don't have pictures, but here are some things we learned at "EXPO ZARAGOZA 2008: WATER:" Just because people are lining up for hours to see something does not mean it is worth seeing. Here some of the exhibits we saw:The Aragon Pavilion: We waited for 1 hour to be taken by elevator to see a pathway lined with big sticks holding ...

Preparations and the Decision to Travel to Italy.

... my entire life. Why did I want to go to Italy so bad you ask? I know for a lot of people, not just me, Italy is this mythical, beautiful, romantic country with great food and the people to match which was part of my reasons for going, but it was more than that. I have always been facinated with Italy's art, music, culture and of course, history. I am a huge history buff and I love the arts because of my music background ...
