... take a side route
to get to Yellowstone National Park. By chance, we turned west after
Buffalo and the scenery just got more and more dramatic. It was
absolutely stunning, no other words to describe it. You know how some
things can look/hear/taste/feel so incredible that you would actually
tear up? Well, this was one of those moments.
I'm going to cheat and copy/paste ...
... van is just scratched up a little, it really slowed us down...AND construction. The drive was beautiful through Teton Park though. We stopped in Dubois for a supper picnic at the Park and drove through rain around Riverton. We all saw a beautiful double rainbow. We came through the Wind River Canyon at dusk and the rocks were beautifully rosy.
We pulled into Thermopolis at dark and thanks to an excellent recommendation from Sharon, we stayed at the Eagle Rock ...
... tool. It's really just another way to procrastinate. No cooking from here on out though (actually fromn last night). Thank God friends have been feeding us so I at least don't have to clean up my kitchen, Thanks, guys! That tri-tip was delicious! Tonight it's grilled steak and shrimp.
Okay...first stop on the roadtrip is Thermopolis, WY where they claim to have the world's largest hot spring pools, although a review says some place in New Zealand owns that ...
... Mountians. Say great mountian views, canyon cliffs, and a pass at over 9000 ft. One thing I really liked was that they had signs at the different rock layers that stated the age of the rocks, those young earth creationist must night like this road.
After getting out of the mountians found another thunderstorm with some pretty cool lighting displays and ended the day in Thermopolis WY. Tomorrow off to Yellowstone.
... information worker suggesting that campers take the low road, as the other path to yellowstone is much steeper and had been closed on account of the snow just the previous night. We followed this advise trying to give the truck the easiest route.
The snow was melting along the mountains as we wound our way through them. We decided on a camp in Thermopolis, the home of the largest ...
... gone for so long. But after about 90 mintues, she returned, rejuvenated and ready for the next part of our adventure. We opted in again. This time pasta from Pizza Hut. We don't eat their pizza, no one makes pizza like us Aussies. If it only has one, two or even three toppings on it, it does not pass muster. Enough of this sitting around, its bed and the next installment of our adventure tomorrow. Stay: Best Western Plaza Inn Drive: no thanks, not today
Thermopolis, Wyoming, United States cdcassA not so early rise. Again. The late finishes are winning over the early rises. Another quick detour in town before wandering back to the Grand Tetons NP. Junior Ranger Zac is in full swing. Very impressive set up for their primary visitor's centre. Video river walkways, projection rooms, a huge array of displays and some very impressive architecture. Kind of makes it look like the jagged mountain range from which ...
Thermopolis, Wyoming, United States cdcass... drinking at the bar was very friendly and we had and excellent club sandwich and obligatory Buds while we chatted about the place and the history. Seems it used to be one of the bigger towns in Wyoming until the railroad went through Cody whereupon it died back to a township of 191. After and excellent lunch and chat we pressed onto Thermopolis and an RV park that MJ had visited 5 years ago. It had new owners and they reckoned they'd ...
Thermopolis, Wyoming, United States marty_chrissie... her batteries that go flying into the area of hot springs. I have to climb through the fence and take my shoes off to get them back. It was adventurous. Some guy with a University of Illinois sweatshirt on gave me a round of applause...maybe it was for not dying in the 204 degree water. We decide its only 40 degrees in this part of the park. We move on to see Old Faithful. We wait about 18 minutes and it errupts. We are quite amazed, but thats that, its ...
Yellowstone, Wyoming, United States greatescapeDrove 453 miles and over 8 hours from the Rocky Mountains to get here. Set up camp 3 miles from the entrance of the Badlands in Interior (population 63!). On 6/19 I took a hike through the prairie and climbed some red banned buttes. Took a midnight hike into the prairie with the sky illuminated by the moon. Even this late the hills were ...
