Not a very exciting travel day. Beautiful warm weather through Oklahoma and Missouri.
We even saw gasoline for $2.99 a gallon for the first time this trip! We haven't been stopping to sightsee on the way out as we have been on this Route 66 before. Our sightseeing will be in Utah.

President Eisenhower wanted a US Highway system and with this plan in place Route 66 suffered. Gradually, the businesses along Route 66 closed and parts of Route 66 also were closed down. One stop we just had to make was "Pops" located just outside Oklahoma City decided to have an early dinner there and while we were eating tornado warnings came across the TV for Oklahoma City so..... we got out of dodge and headed west and couldn't find a place to stay on Rt66 and that is why we are here instead of a cute little motel. ...
... The boys scribbled their names on some of the cars to join in on the fun. There were quite a number of other folks there too - some just taking pictures but many with spray paint bottles adding something to the sculpture. Pity that many folks just threw their bottles on the ground. Having seen it, we wouldn't rush back again.
