For the second year in a row we beat the winter storm out of Canada by 24 hours. We bid Niagara on the Lake farewell Monday morning and drove through to Fort Chiswell by 6:30 just a few hours ahead of the Arctic ice blast. The weather network advised us to be out of town by noon to avoid ice and snow, so we started out early and outran the weather …
... and Hawks/Giants and Packers games.
Thought we might spend a week here but tomorrow, we will drive back to Edisto Island to spend the week at the quiet state park on the beach relaxing and re-energizing before the next phase. It's more isolated and relaxed. This place is pretty but a little too upscale for our budget and too many people. My aren't we just turning into the recluses?

... ourselves on the beach, famlies started piling in at 10:30-11 am. I notice that as much space as there is between people on the beach, they still manage to gravitate towards each other. We were able to handle the sun for 4 hours then it was time to head back and enjoy my aunt's pool overlooking the marsh.
After more rest and relaxation we cleaned up and went out on the town. First, we stopped for an early dinner at Steamer Seafood ...
... she is a pool bunny and not a beach bunny. As we headed back to the pool we looked for a few seashells.
Once back at the pool we enjoyed the sandwiches Amanda had spent the morning making while Papa and Mamaw headed for the eatery where they got a Turkey melt and burger with French fries that the kids would mooch on. We all enjoyed our lunch and Kody was really devouring the bag of lays potato chips we brought, and really enjoyed bringing ...
... Mrs Wilkes' House. It had a truckload of votes and punters were raving about the food, the Southern Hospitality and promising we’d never have experienced anything like this before. Right, well that’s where we’re going! I hadn’t once come across this in all the restaurant searches I’d done.
We found the place easily and saw before us an enormous queue. Definitely all tourists which was so off-putting but the reviews ...
