NICK - It's official. I am eating dust for two weeks when I get back. I have just eaten yet another huge all American dish of ribs, bread, fries, beans and coleslaw. You'll be pleased to note, however, that I skipped most of the bread and all of the beans. But my ribs had nothing on Rob's pizza, today's Meal of the Day. It was chuffin' huge - full …
... Hard to describe, just a little less rural and a little less old. I stopped at
Wildwood MetroPark near Toledo. Nice, but nothing really of note. The night was spent
near Lake Erie, and I arose early to see the lake at dawn.
I am one of those people who enjoy holiday decorations, especially halloween and
Christmas, and the sooner they go up, the better. So hats ...
I know I haven't done an update this entire summer - it's been a long, hot one, and a lot's been going on - I'm hoping to go back and post pictures here from each month's highlights. For now, here's a few photos taken during our last week at Cedarlane.
... artist fund raiser that we do with benches, tables, etc. Tried to continue south on Rt.209 but with a deteor, it sort of bounced me to I84. So I took that as a sign, and with the bright rising sun at my back, I decided to use highways to make time across Pennsylvania. Some areas of dense fog, band some thick, low-laying clouds in the valleys. But it all burned off. On I80 all day, went thru ...
... story is that there has never been a verified bottom and is believed to be connected to underground rivers. The Native Americans of the area thought the springs had healing properties and was sacred ground. Supposedly a horse and buggy drove into the springs and drown. We also stopped at the town cemetery to say hi to my grandparents and take pictures for my genealogy ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Comfort Inn Sandusky
My husband and I stayed here while visiting Cedar Point Amusement Park. The rooms are outdated and the hallways and pool area were dark and in need of a good cleaning. As for room amenities, remember to bring your own lotion, shampoo, conditioner and soap. On the upside, the pool bar was nice and the shuttle they offer to the amusement was convenient. It's easy to find, but we will spend a little extra next time to stay else where. If you are looking for a fun and good place to eat while you are there, go to the Thirsty Pony.
Comfort Inn fine if you get a good rate
A friend and I planned a trip to Cedar Point in less than a week. She's in CT, and I'm in WI; Sandusky is somewhere in the middle. Since the trip was last minute, cost was a concern. We searched all of our available options, and we got a great rate for Memorial Day weekend at the Comfort Inn. We read the reviews here in advance, so we were nervous, but our rates ($234 total for 3 nights) were signifcantly cheaper than any of the other hotel options, and it had the ammenities (indoor pool for example) we were looking for.
Arrived on Friday night and had no problems with check in. Quick and were given rooms next to each other as requested.
Rooms: The size was okay for the money. 2 dbl beds were very hard, and the bedding was scratchy. If the air conditioner shut off for a bit, you could get a very musty smell. There were some spots on the carpet, some marks on the walls, and general wear. The bathroom sink area was nicely sized, and even though we were next to the outside pool, we could hear no noise when the window was shut.
Continental Breakfast: This was disappointing. The quality of the items (donuts, bagels, 2 cereal choices, toast, and oatmeal) were poor. The donuts in particular were not very good. I didn't expect a full course meal, but slightly more edible options would have been good.
Location/Features: I liked the option of the indoor and outdoor pool. Both were fairly busy though. The location isn't bad. It was about 15 minutes to and from Cedar Point. Parking was always readily available. Discount tickets were available at the front desk. The staff was generally friendly.
I thought long and hard about my review. The quality of the hotel is below average overall, but for the money spent and the amount of time we were in our rooms, it was adequate. Had I paid more for the room, I would have been disappointed. If you can get a good rate, it will likely meet your needs. I would probably spend a little more to get a little more.
Black Stains on the Ceiling
Our room was ridiculous. When we got into our room, there was what a LARGE black stains all over the ceiling, above the bed. When we called the front desk, she informed us that it was from when the roof leaked and that the only other open room was next door which was even worse. She said it was fine and that they just hadn't got around to painting it. Due to the time we ended up staying there, but I wouldn't suggest doing so if you have the choice.
The room left a lot to be desired considering what we paid for it for 3 nights. After being at Cedar Point all day on Friday and Saturday, and not returning to the room until around midnight, we came back to our room and had not received any towels for the next morning. One day being overlooked I can deal with but not two. It's not fun having housekeeping delivering towels to your room well after midnight. We will not stay there again.
Ok on a budget
I think the reviewer who requested the Lake view may have been referring to the Comfort Inn in Sandusky/Milan because a Lake View wouldn't be possible here at the one off the highway.
We thought the staff was pretty friendly and the price was good.
Our only complaints were that our (smoking) room smelled very strongly of old cigars. Every time we walked in we said "Eww, that stinks!" We even bought some air freshener to try to help the situation.
Try to stay in a non-smoking room if you can.
The floor in the pool area and some of the pool furniture looked a little dirty. A lot of the plants in that area were dead and probably should be removed.
The continental breakfast was good, much more than I expected.
So, our stay was ok. We don't feel ripped-off or anything.
Nice for what you pay!
My husband and I stayed here in 2003 for our honeymoon. I thought it was nice considering we paid onliy like sixty dollars a night through an internet rate! Although we didnt experience breakfast, some mornings we did not have towels, and there were some noisy kids staying near us, it was alright. I thought the staff was friendly enough. They gave us board games to play when we were ... bored so I mean all in all it was okay. The pool was... again okay... and the room size was adequate... plenty of space to store clothing etc. Bathroom ... a little small.... but like I said for what I paid... great deal!
Rude staff with no integrety
On 3/7/04, at check out time, the price was more than the price that was agreed upon at the time the reservation was made. Also, at check in the desk clerk was notified that a late check out was requested (a so-called advanage with having a choice privlege number) The maid wasn't aware of the request & ignored the DO NOT DISTURB sign and repeatedly beat on the door at a "VERY inapproriate time." The desk clerk that took the reservation from me on 3/5/04 remembered our conversation well, including the price that he had quoted me when the room was reserved. Unfortunately, only the manager could resolve this problem and that's not what the rude manager wanted to do. The manager of the motel not only refused to give back the difference in the cost due to THEIR mistake, but he never even appologized for the overpayment or the maids intrusion. Instead, I was offered $25 to be used toward another stay (which I do not want.) I never asked that the full amount that was paid to be given back, even though that would of been the right thing for them to offer. I only asked for the overpayment to be given back. My advise: Stay away from the Comfort Inn on Milan Rd in Sandusky, Ohio.
What a rip off!
An Expensive, dump! we paid over $200 for a night. i paid a little extra for a lake view and jacuzzi thinking that it would be quite pleasant. the window was smaller than my car windscreen and i needed a chair to stand on to see out the window. the jacuzzi was dirty and pretty gross! the towels were old and the non-smoking room smelt as though it had 10 smokers there the night before. don't waste your money!
Quite a let down
I had moderate expectations for the Comfort Inn based on web reviews.
Boy, were we let down. The first night we were placed in a room directly over their party to 2am nightclub. We could literally hear the words of the songs. I called at 11pm - the front desk pre-assigned us a room to switch first in the morning. When we called to switch rooms, the room had been given away. We had to wait another 2 hours for another to be cleaned.
The best thing about the Comfort Inn in Sandusky was the cleanliness of the rooms and the housekeeping staff. I didn't find any bugs or major dirt.
The worst thing about the hotel was the front desk staff. Their lack of detail was fall surpassed by their rudeness at every interaction. We travel at least twice a year and I have never seen such a general attitude of botherness. We will never return. Nothing was done or even offered for the nightclub fiasco, not even a "we're sorry".
Bathroom and bedroom was clean, received non-smoking room that was requested. Cot was not in room, despite three reminders-- one on the morning of check in. When cot arrived it had springs sticking out. It was replaced only after much complaining. Replacement cot had acceptable mattress but was missing a sheet. Sheet arrived 15minutes later after phone call. On day 2 room and bathroom and bedroom was clean when we returned at 9 pm --but no towels. Towels arrived after phone call. Towels on both days were small, thin, and ripped.
Continental breakfast was adequate. Shuttle bus included in price was very unreliable and a bumpy uncomfortable trip.
