... 30-40 mile an hour winds.

We stopped for a picnic lunch in Cape Charles, hoping to catch a glimpse of the lighthouse which bears its' name. We did not find it - instead seeing a town water tank painted to resemble an iron lighthouse. Someone here has quite a sense of humour.

We have ended the day in Fruitland - a place where most people, like us, are "just passing through".

        8/28/15- Friday

Broke camp and enjoyed the ride across the 17 mile Chesapeake Bay Bridge & Tunnel. The bridge is 23 miles long and the tunnel goes from 25' to 100' deep. The weather was perfect and the 3 hour trip was easy to our new campsite at Ft. Whaley, Whaleyville, MD. We stayed here 3 years ago with grandsons, Austin & Cory.

The Conaway's and the Beauchamp's left Stockton, MD at 5 p.m. and the Porter's fell in the convoy in Snow Hill. We traveled to Cumberland , MD and slept in a Walmart lot. This night start enabled us to avoid the morning work traffic from the Bay Bridge north. 281 miles traveled.

        1. Cape Hatteras National Seashore, NC – Outer Banks- Ocracoke Campground- April 27, 2015 with pass $10

This is one of four campgrounds in the National Seashore and the only one that takes reservations. None of the campgrounds have hookups. One needs to take the fee ferry from the mainland or the free ferry from Hatteras Island to reach Ocracoke Island.

The campground is one dune away ...

... about 94 of them roam free all over this park including in your campsites and on the ocean. As the weather gets warmer you will see more of them near the Oceanside. Tenters need extra long stakes. It is so nice to wake up hearing the waves crashing on the beach. There is a visitor center as you drive onto the island with an excellent movie about the horses.
