Left hotel Mt Vernon Il at 745! Good nitr sleep. Brrr temp 37! Try to get home?? We r 1 hr from st louis (600 mi to home from there). Driving thru IL AND IA! At 315PM turned onto 35 notth! Sign said Mpls 182 miles! Yipee!! Ipod says home appx 700pm! Thatd like 12 hr day ( but we habe ot stopped to eat-just snacks in truck) grrrr! OOPS 11/28/14 got a speed ticket in mail from this day thru Iowa! ...

... the time in the car. I’ve mentioned naps in the past. These are good and regular for Matt and Izze. Paula sometimes takes a “power nap”. She has a theory that a 15-20 minute nap is better than a 1-2 hour nap. I have only napped once or twice this during our journeys, but I’m definitely in the longer nap category myself.

... to search for the grave of Thomas Lincoln, Abe’s
father. My old jalopy had been acting up again with the air conditioning not
working for a few days and an occasional squeaking sound from a belt (nothing
particularly unusual). Starting the car at the cemetery there was a sharp
screeching sound, smoke coming out from under the hood, and then a loud pop as
the steering belt snapped.
