When I planned this journey, my life was in a different place.

Make no mistake, excitement builds in me as I am driven to the airport for what will be an expedition of twenty two days taking me to new places, new cultures and, well, new everything. But, there is newness at home that puts this trip on notice that if any part of it lags I will be homesick.

We started Day 2 by visiting the Harry Truman Presidential Museum and Library in Independence, MO. I thought the museum was fascinating. It succeeded by telling the story of his life where both my boys and I could relate. They had a ton of actual "artifacts" there like his WWI gear, to the bible he took the oath of office after FDR's death, to the guns the attempted assassins used. We arrived in Kansas City, and then got to our hotel in Independence, MO and checked in. The kids wanted to see the Chiefs and Royals stadiums, so we drove by there and got as close as we could get since the gates were locked.
