... lamps of different shapes and design, fluffy new towels, and a beautiful window shade that looked like art.

When we arrived at the venue, we were greeted by the most fun crew we've had yet. These guys have worked our show several times, and were familiar with the whole deal. So, when the van arrived late due to a flat tire, they had already unloaded the truck and were half way set up. They were so ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tourdev... warm and funny.

Then we went over to the trolley tour of Montgomery where we learned about the history of this beautiful city. The trolley takes off from the old train station which is now a historic monument. While waiting for the next trolley, we moved through the exhibits and historical time line of the civil rights movement in the U.S.A. I remember growing up reading and watching TV news and movies about civil rights ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... saw the design of a thistle as clear as a lightening strike. It was such a powerfully clear dream she jumped up and drew what she had seen. She then found an artisan to carve the thistle design into the staircase. I have included a close up in the pictures. Looking closely at this house reveals more and more detail of fun and imagination!!! The-day-before-Thanksgiving dinners and opening-day-of- hunting dinners are served up here at the long table every year. I can easily imagine how homey ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... luxurious comfort with a relaxed modern style that is Marney’s own.

A park runs down the center of this broad, brick street canopied by huge old trees. The park is well used by joggers, dog walkers, exercise classes and many other folks getting fit while enjoying the beauty of their neighborhood park. This area of Montgomery is old, well preserved and very community minded. The houses are one more gracious southern home after ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States jodieandandy... More later..

Once in Montgomery I decided to take a ride through town. I'm glad I did. I visited the state capital and the church that Martin Luther King preached at. More importantly that same church was the meeting point for many of the rallies in support of the the bus boycott which was sparked by Rosa Parks. I also visited the Rosa Parks museum and the spot where the bus bench sat.

I also rode by the first white house the Jefferson ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States hawgbound... her to willingly join us in the water. So that meant I had to pull her in. This was not an easy task and she scurried out as quickly as she could.

In the afternoon, my cousin Frankie saddled up some of the horses and Alex got to go for a little ride. Then there was more swimming and even time to hold one of Uncle D's new baby ducks...a father's day gift from his daughters.

We had a very peaceful and relaxing visit and can't wait to go back again.
Prattville, Alabama, United States hollyesparza... Oreo cookie and cream cheese balls dipped in chocolate...decadence. While Jackie was cooking, we walked down to the barn so Alex could help feed the horses. Tori & Bella were very intrigued with these new creatures and weren't quite sure how to approach them. It was a funny site.

Prattville, Alabama, United States hollyesparza... got there and had two pieces of peach cobbler specially made by the owner left over. They gave it to us - if good southern manners allowed, we'd have licked the bowl - fantastic Georgia peaches. Understanding we're heading north the waitress gives us her best directions and warns us of aggressive cops in the neighboring county. Traveling north along secondary highways (random note: they encourage u-turns in the little median areas ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tednims... there is a life-sized replica of a 1955 Montgomery public bus along one wall. In the windows are projected images of a scene from that evening. The display proceeds to do a reenactment of Rosa's stand and arrest. A narrator describes the scene and the people in it as people board the bus and it becomes more and more crowded. Eventually it gets to the point where the cranky bus driver, who Rosa actually recognized from an incident a decade prior, asks her to ...
Montgomery, Alabama, United States tmarooch... group of eight we had joined, including the people who had doubled up so Michael and I could have a room, was put together with another twenty people and assigned to Pascagoula, Mississippi. Tidbit that doesn't quite fit with the narrative: We paid for dinner in Montgomery with Michael's Red Cross Disaster Staff Card. When our waitress gave us the receipt she said, "Thank you, Mr. Cross." Michael insists she was joking, but I'm not so sure.
