35 Melbourne Street Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand
Our first destination in New Zealand was Mt Cook. This is the highest peak in the whole of the continent of Australasia. It was in the mountain range which runs almost the full length of the South Island on the Western side of the island, known as the Southern Alps. As you drive out of Christchurch, you quickly leave behind the flat farmlands and the scenery changes to rolling hills, a bit like the Yorkshire dales, with much more sheep and cows. As we drove on, we got our first glimpse of the...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand marie_mcArrived safely. This is the kind of place where you just stand and look at everything around you. It's a bit like the scottish highlands with mountains and lakes but on a much grander scale. Pretty cold here though compared to Oz. Had a look around the town and took a trip up the mountain on the gondola cable cars. Fantastic views from the top - it's very steep and a long way up. Phill was going to do a bungee jump but he forgot his spare trousers. In the evening we met up with a friend and w...

Anyways, last night turned out ok, I shared a room with a German and a Brazillian and we talked football all night, even carried it on till breakfast. The big match is on Saturday night, NZ play Bahrain in Wellington for a world cup place, the TV has Ryan Nelson the NZ (and Blackburn - He never mentions them tho.) captain on every day rallying the troops.. Captain Nelson expects every man to do his duty etc. I'm gonna find meself a ...
... from the air! It was a stunning flight. So much fun to be up in a helicopter for he first time and getting a different perspective on an area I’d known to be home for a week! It was simply spectacular.
There were several days spent up north – partly due to the aftermath of jetlag that was still being suffered and also as there was simply so much to see. We ventured out on a day trip to a small town called Russel for a delightful fish and ...
... where the scenary was absolutely stunning. Queenstown is so cool because it can be really great at night, a good night out, but also it has loads and loads of adrenaline activities and normal activities, the best being the Nevis Bungy and the Canyon Swing. Also the scenary is some of the best scenary I have seen in New Zealand, amazing mountainside (the 'remarkables' from the Lord of the Ring films) and brilliant lake. Jo, Lloyd, Lisa, James and ...

Katie and I drove the short distance from Wanaka to Queenstown the next day. We took the scenic road, which was very impressive, which involved seeing a cloud filled valley from high up, then driving down into it. We crossed a bridge with impressive views of a river and valley, and realised there was a jetboat company there. We backtracked, and I went on the twenty minute ride, powering up and down the river, driving close to the ...
... going down over the sea on the way back and not good for photography. Unfortunately the lens motor has gone on my larger camera so I just have a little Canon from now on, its so annoying. We passed Stirling Falls which is apparently higher than Niagara, three times higher, not sure I can believe that though, it didn't seem that high, the captain spun the boat at the bottom of the falls in the spray!! On the journey back the mountains were visible ...
Queenstown, South Island, New Zealand jillybear... m there, walking into a rather posh restaurant, tired and looking a little hot and sweaty in the nooks and crannys, and asking this friendly manager guy if he knows the way to our destination. well, despite my appearance, he seemed very friendly and was much obliged to help out! thankfully, after finally reaching our caravan park, at quite an ungodly hour, the security guard at the park was nice to us too. and so, that night, with the big city lights shining over the harbour waters ...

I was told to stand next to the instructor, holding onto straps attached to his shoulder and waist, we’d take two steps walking and then sprint side by side. The instructor looked just like the Australian cricket player Andy Bichel, though slightly older, so I thought his acceleration would be the same as the fast bowler’s. But after we’d taken the ...
