Pretty overwhelming day at conference. Didn't sleep well last night.

First 2 hours was the opening 'plenary' speeches - fairly interesting. They had a concert pianist playing for half an hour first - and the theatre was not at all what I expected - more like the Opera House. About 4500 people enrolled at the conference and another ?2000 ...

It has been a bit difficult to post due to the rather slow wifi at the apartment. Am now using my mobile data and typing on phone!

Went and saw the mannekin pis this morning - no other tourists around at 8am. It's a bit like the Mona Lisa - very small which wasn't unexpected. Had muesli for breakfast with my raisin-flavoured milk - bought in error trying to get fresh trim milk. Was better with the muesli than the cup of tea!

Michel wanted to show us where he had once worked in Jeumont, but on the way we saw a church that had a crooked spire at Solre le Chateau. The architect ...

Took the train to Bassilly today and stopped for lunch at a small tavern. Once we were done we asked the bartender how to get to our hotel and she gave us the directions. However once she found out we were walking she insisted on driving us. We said we were happy to walk, since it was only 20mins away but she insisted. I love Belgium, people are so friendly! It turns out she was the owner so she actually put one of her regulars in charge until she got back...what?! Small ...
