It sits atop a very high hill. To get to it, you have to board the special bus which takes nearly 10 minutes to drive you up the steep and winding road which was designed to give you fleeting glimpses of the castle as you drove up.

... Great Ocean Road and made a few stops along the way so everyone could get photos. We eventually came into Monteray, a town that was made famous by John Steinbeck, the author who based some of his books in Monteray and Cannery Row, the tourist area we were taken to.
There were a few streets of shops and lots of restaurants. We were going to have lunch in a seafood restaurant Vince recommended but there was a 15 min wait, and I won't queue ...
... Not sure if this was because it was a Saturday or if it is always this busy. It was a beautiful place though and the sand on the beach there was white. We are staying in a nice hotel tonight with a seated area, massive bed, terrace and fabulous ensuite. Had a walk in Monterey Fisherman's Wharf and Cannery Row. Very busy and commercialised. Luckily the area around the hotel is much nicer. Just having a simple relaxing meal tonight in preparation for a 4 hour drive tomorrow to ...
