... we went into town (Waseca) where there was a County Band Competition It began with a street parade. We lined up with hundreds of others and watched as classic cars - corvets, mustangs etc - old fire engines, cars carrying the 'queens', and 10 college bands with their drum majors and the girls that threw their flags and danced. Some of them were very polished - I thought the best was the one that used the Mary Poppins music complete with Sweeps, chimneys, umbrellas ...

After breakfast, (Grace and Carroll stayed at the hotel too),we had a tour of downtown St Paul - this is one side of the river, and Minneapolis is the other side, they are locally called the twin cities. Looked at the University and city buildings, then stopped at the Capitol -Where the senate, the house of representatives and supreme court are. Very ornate inside with marble columns and stair cases. There are the old flags from the local regiments ...

... into a hotel. Perhaps they are the new Amish. Didn't have my camera so couldn't take a picture. darn.

Leaving my bro in laws house we saw two huge bucks. They were much bigger than the deer we see around Bellingham. These looked like deer people hunt for. They were quite majestic looking. didn't have my camera ready again, darn.

Well off to bed with the sound of rain on the roof and hoping the tornado watch doesn't turn into a tornado warning. ...

... the Whitestone and Limestone layers. Apparently there are Amish people living in the area. We saw young man on a horse drawn wagon, who was dozing, probably from bailing hay. Even though the reigns were slack, you could tell that the horse new exactly where it was going. Our goal was to leave Wisconsin at La Crosse - which is a Mississippi River crossover to Minnesota. Coal trains and other musings

While doing the long drive through Montana, I noticed several coal trains. None of the cars of coal were covered. Does this mean that the coal trains that are going through Bellingham will have "invisible" covers?

I was remembering when motels were called motor inns. Wonder when or why they changed their name to motels
