Long story short, we swapped lead a few times, lapping a yungster

... to compare with other places we’ve stayed along the way, we would question their description of "deluxe room", but there is nothing at all wrong with it, and it will suit us for the 4 nights we’re here. To get internet access would cost up to a whopping $30 a day (£16ish), so we’ll have to use one of the many internet cafes.

In total since Brisbane we’ve driven 4448 km, or 2780 miles.

G'day cobbers.

Thanks Mel for dropping us off at the airport! Check in went well, and we then did the normal airport stuff. Do you remember the Monty Python and the Spanish Inquisition? well the Spanish Inquisition appeared from out of the blue, with 4 trellis tables and police uniforms. the whole plane had to line up before embarking, for hand a luggage raid. All Sue's lotions got thrown in the bin, and ...

Its that time of year again!

Virgin Australia had super dooper deals on a flight and car hire combo to LA that couldn't be resisted so we are now the owners of two tickets for next year! 25/4/10 - 6/6/10 a long way away but something to look forward to. The airfare and the compact car hire deal was less than the cost of this years airfare to Frankfurt. We have a friend who loves traveling the USA by road and he assures us ...

And so the (pre)adventure begins...

... people are careful and sometimes it happens anyway.
That I won't cope so well with hours and hours of waiting in lines and on buses. I've read other people's blogs and they talk about being on a bus for three days to get somewhere. I don't like the idea! I don't mind overnighters or something, but three days on a bus would feel like forever, and I can just see myself getting irritable and grumpy. And that's something I have to work on, since me and Ben are going to ...

Melbourne to Adelaide via the Great Ocean Road

... outside and the fact that we zepped up the hills... not) was a bit of a beast to drive, especially as there was no power steering and it quite often took two of us to turn the steering wheel as we were manoeuvring. We had a ball though, taking it in turns to drive where ever the road took us. We stopped at loads of beautiful beaches, look outs and waterfalls. The highlight has to be the Twelve Apostles, which are stunning. I have no idea why they are called ...

A night too long in Adelaide.

... about Adelaide. It's clean and well laid out, with wide streets and plenty of everything that a city should have. It's just lacking in character. That night was possibly the worst night of my 32 year life! The ten others in the dorm, except 'the weirdo' who stayed close to us, decided to go and have a heavy night on the town. This entailed the German lads sniffing their clothes for wear-ability, putting on some Lynx and discussing ...

Adelaide and family

We got up in our Sydney dorm at 4am to get an early morning flight to Adelaide and were soon on our way. Though a bit tired, we were looking forward to meeting more of my family. My cousin Julian picked us up from Adelaide airport and we were soon on our way to his place a little outside the city itself. There we were greeted by Tara, Julian's wife, and my two little second cousins, Ella (4) and Lily (1). For the rest of our first day there, Julian took us on a ...

... to the beach. When we got there we became very disappointed, because we were too late for the surf lessons, the whole reason why we went back to the beach. From there the day began to come to a close. By that we went back to the hostel, made another excellent dinner and discussed our plans for the great ocean road. It was another great day down under. Hope to hear from you all soon.

Australia Day in Ballerat, Victoria

in a nutshell: we flew from Adelaide to Melbourne and met up with Faith (who we met on our China trip). We went back to Faith & Richard's FABULOUS house in Ballerat - a former Gold Town about 1.5hrs east of Melbourne. We celebrated Australia Day with them by driving down part of the Great Ocean Road and then having a party & watching fireworks over the lake. Kath, Vanessa & Siow from the China trip also came down from Melbourne so it was quite a reunion!
