... and headed for the free road side stop. Found our night stop over and it was great alot of caravans pulled up here to sleep it is just down a small road across a bridge and it sits beside the river dry river at the moment. Looked around went for a walk along the river and saw a couple of Jabirus which we thought was strange as we both thought that they ...
Halls Creek, Western Australia, Australia nickimja... it appear as if its man-made, and very much resembles the Great Wall of China.
This wall is easy to get to, located off a 5km sealed road (Duncan Road) just out of Halls Creek, and then along 2km of compacted, unsealed road, which is on a left turnoff through a gate- all is clearly signposted. I would recommend the detour off the highway to anyone who is passing through Halls Creek, just to give the town a chance to be fairly memorable on your journey.
... We cross quite a few running streams and the Negri R and Forest CK are really flowing.
I had earlier made a phone call from Kununurra to Nicholson station for permission to get into Marella Gorge but there was no answer. As we pass the station I call on the UHF but also get no answer. We find the turn-off and head in anyway. We find a couple camping at the water hole. They were really ...
... Crossing Inn to see local student's indigenous art displayed in the gallery there, including a mural on the pub's external walls.
Greg enjoyed a beverage and the barmaid gave the kids a bag of blue fairy floss each - making them blue tongue lizards in 10 secs flat.
The Inn dates back to 1897 and back in the day when the river was too swollen to ford, travellers were holed up here waiting to move on - sometimes it would take days!!

We camped on a huge tarpaulin in swags. The campsite consisted of a bush dunnie, a tap (not drinking water) and a concrete pit for fires. We ate around a fire even though it wasn't cold enough. The stars were very bright and it took me a while to get to sleep because I was facinated with the bats flying overhead and the sound of crickets.
... let the 52km dirt road that takes 2 hours to cover deter you from this wonderful experience! We stayed at the Bungle Bungle Wilderness Lodge and absolutely enjoyed being pampered with hot and cold showers, comfortable beds and great meals prepared by the fabulous staff. Purnululu National Park Western Australia, Australia travelyackie... of sheer wonder to walk and climb through! Thank goodness we have the Britz Xtreme 4WD vehicle to drive across the perilous and often challenging 52 km of dirt road to get to the park entry. And then after paying fees it is another 35 minutes to the chasm car park. But wow, it is worth it. Don't let the 52km dirt ...
Halls Creek Western Australia, Australia travelyackie... photos and notices regarding the state of the grassed recreation area in the center of town, covered in beer cans and general detritus, they were asking the locals to help keep the place tidy and clean. We wondered where on earth we had found ourselves. There was only one campsite here and fortunately they had space. It was a gravel site with a high corrugated fence surrounding it, we had been warned to keep an eye on our things and make sure we locked up as ...
Halls Creek, Western Australia, Australia kevandrach... here on film, ambling across the dusty road as we were leaving Keep River N.P., luckily for Mr Lizard, who would have been splattered, but for Riley's eagle eyes. Look closely for the tongue! We also think we saw one of the fabulous but elusive 'frilled neck lizards', standing upright, as they do, on the track's edge in the Bungles, but decided it was a piece of wood - and then ...
Bungle Bungles, Australia fishtails04... deprived feel about it. I really want to visit the Bungle Bungles which is a spectacular honey comb formation of domes and gorges. I'm pretty close to the national park now but the road leading to the Bungles is a very rough 53km long undulating dirt track. My two wheel drive Toyota isn't going make it, so I've been exploring other options. I was thinking of treating myself and splashing out on a helicopter. So I drove past the national park to a place ...
