        ... and listened on the radio as we drove out of town. Eastern Iowa is a blur of corn and gas stations. Altoona, the Amana Colonies, Iowa City, the Quad Cities. We did stop for a spell at the World's Biggest Trick Stop in Wolcott, a mega gas station with showers , a trucker shop, truckomat, a chapel, a food court, several unique shops, a museum.         Despite the cab not coming on time I arrived to find the flight delayed anyway. The security guard at the gate wanted to talk soccer (he was a "Munchester" fan) and at least he'd heard of QPR. I had an early lunch and waited... ... Only to find the flights had been rescheduled and changed to a different gate. Having had to swallow the exorbitant charge for my luggage I was loathed to buy lunch on board (who are United Airlines - Ryanair?) I read my book, snoozed and admired the ...

        ... renovated several years ago. It looks beautiful from the pictures and just the kind of non-touristy area we were looking for. We have intentionally left our schedule pretty loose so we can take our time, meet the locals, and take advantage of unexpected wonderful moments. We definitely have some must see's and must do's on our list but its pretty great to not feel like we're racing to get to the next stop. Next stop ...

        ... And we'll be able to say we saw them when!

        That was Friday night, and the next morning was just a whirlwind of packing and saying goodbye to Chicago. We drove about half an hour on the beautiful scenic Lake Shore road, which offers the perfect view of Chicago on one side and Lake Michigan on the other. A couple Felders discussed the architecture they saw, throwing around comparisons between "modernist" and "postmodernist" ...

        Made it home by 7:30 last night. I highly recommend that Lake Michigan ferry! Totally cool.
        Busy today with laundry, groceries, etc. Gotta download some film and put something together for our friend who couldn't make any of the Power Tour this year.
