I drove over to Teddy Roosevelt National Park, near Mandan, and drove around the loop. This is the time of year when it has the most color. It was interesting to me to see the same places I saw last April, when it was winter. Quite a difference. I enjoyed watching the cute, fat prairie dogs. They whistled their alarms when they saw me and the air was filled with the sound of their whistles. Saw the bison, and one wild mustang.
Medora, North Dakota, United States poodlady... capital in Bismarck and the other is in Ray (down a dirt road and even more remote). As they say, in for a penny-in for a pound. The first two courses I played were very nice but nothing really special. Everyone had said 'Oh yea, but wait till you get to Bully Pulpit, the views are spectacular. They were correct.

The photos were the best I could do in between hitting the little white ball and oohing and ahhing
Medora, North Dakota, United States thesairs... hard to put into words how this wide open, stunningly beautiful place pulled us in. I'm sure the experience would have been entirely different if we had visited during the 'season'. Since we visited after Labor Day, the park was virtually empty and all of the touristy type attractions were closed.

Enjoy the pictures but, as always they don't do the scenery justice.
Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota, United States thesairsHere's some photos along the drive from Montana to Wisconsin. The buffalo was not staged, he was gone right after I took the picture. A guy at the park suggested I take a short hike down into the valley, I'm really glad I did. It was beautiful.
Medora, North Dakota, United States sjandbuddy... Angus has a tire swing right outside our door and lots of little kids always calling his name ! The pool has the most beautiful view of the rock cliffs that line the Yellowstone River which we are a stone's throw away from! Well, we are getting close to the end of our journey but there are still parts of Montana left to explore which hopefully we will be getting to soon!

Posted by Tracy
Glendive, Montana, United States pringlefarm... points of interest in North Dakota were all the "world's largest" along side the road. We saw the world's largest metal sculpture, Holstein cow, and buffalo. We reached Minnesota around 7:00, we had lost another hour to central time, and decided to drive on until it got dark enough for the glare of oncoming headlights on the bug-splatter made it unsafe to drive, which was around 9:30.
Glendive, Montana, United States siggymadda09... of the Missouri River. Never heard of that before I came to Bismarck. Never seen it before.

I drove through the Killdeer Mountains (only North Dakota would call these hills "mountains"!) and through some of the beautiful badlands of North Dakota.

Williston, North Dakota, United States poodlady... Montana and both agreed that it was beautiful. We eventually found Glendive where we camped at Makoshika S.P. The State Park seemed pretty interesting with some trails and cool badlands. Brian tells me there are Dinosaur fossils in Montana which would have expleined all the dinosaur statues we ...
Glendive, Montana, United States hannahandbrian... and still complaining of being cold. Not that it was really that cold as much as the wind, then further complicate it with the first few days being nice temperature wise in the 70's but exceptionally buggy. So no matter what the weather there will be annoyances, but thats OK because what would vacation be without some small annoyances, thats why I travel, not for the annoyances but for the adventure of not knowing what will happen next. Today has been ...
