... is a form of defence against killer whales. Its mother was showing it how to jump and we were treated to an incredible acrobatic display - then dad joined in. As he swam under the catamaran, dolphin style, his size became apparent - his tail was wider than our entire boat ! He made a hell of a splash when he jumped out of the water.
We saw lots more pods of humpback whales throughout the day, some even almost within touching distance. Their power was immense - the whole ...
... story is like how old the calf looked etc when the calf went hyper and started breaching the water quite regularly and not to be out done mum was joining in as well. Absolutely amazing to see it and I managged to stop taking pictures of bubbles to enjoy it as well as trying to capture it for ever. The guide spotted another pod just off in the distance and said that that might be their friends meeting up for a chat and sure enough they all meet up just ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... the weekend) decided to go for a Wee behind this Magical tree not realizing that the other faces where round there and everyone was going to be walking round to look. His daughter Emily and Adam couldn't stop laughing for ages afterwards and she had such an infectious laugh that it just kept everyone giggling. From here we made up to a viewing point that was just absolutely beautiful. There is just a massive sea of sand and then a small pocket of water in the corner ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... was extremely windy and for the first time I did not think it was wise to put up the front flap/canopy. I had already booked a day trip on the following day to Fraser island and as I was being picked up at 7am in the morning I settled down to an early night, this was not totally successful as there was a very noisy crown occupying the camp kitchen until quite late, in addition as the pitches were so close I could hear the man in the next tent snoring away ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia jatty... roads and luckily didnt get stuck in the sand which many cars infront did but the bus was bigger so can make it through easier. we went out to 75 mile beach and went to the champagne pools a rock pool off the beach where u can swim without being eaten by a shark, as we sat in the pool we could see dolphins swimming past, we then walked up indian head a look out point over the ocean, from the top we could see m*************s of fish and ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia ctompkins11... difficult driving conditions i have come across. I man handled the jeep, guiding it over hard sand, deep soft sand (requiring 2nd gear, lowrange drive and lots of revs), moving it over large bumps and potholes in the roads and cautiously driving over rocks and shooting over small water creeks all the while trying to avoid the waves and the tide coming in!!!! We eventually arrived at Lake Wabby in one piece ...
Hervey Bay, Queensland, Australia leehorscraft... Allom where the turtles are so friendly they come up and nibble your toes. I'm sure there was about 50 of them at one stage in front of us sticking up their heads to say hello. Then drove back to the Eastern side of the coast towards the Maheno Shipwreck. This was one of the things seen on a Colin Buchanan movie that the kids have and really wanted to see. There was lots of people there and my battery ...
Fraser Island, Queensland, Australia drownsroundaus... with the satisfaction of having just witnessed something truly magical. Watching the sunset over Torquay beach again we understood just why people fall in love, with and in, Hervey Bay :)
p.s. Following our trip to Hervey Bay we emailed a photo of us at Torquay Beach and were lucky enough to have it published in the October issue of Caravan World magazine! Milly's great adventure is now famous :)
... main sights on the island. was really weird seeing that there. after a few pics and seeing lots of little jellyfish on the floor we headed straight up to indian head. this was a cool place to climb up to and lookout from. we even saw whales in the distance - well we didnt actually see the whales, but saw where bubbles were coming up from their blowhole. unfortuately they didnt surface.
after that we went for a dip in the champagne pools. the sea comes over ...
... island. They kind of freaked us out though during the briefing with all the stories of careless people having serious accidents on the island and also about the dingos attacking people in the night!
We set off bright and early the next morning at 7.30am. There was 6 of us in our 4x4. Myself, Rachel, Eli(England), Mike(Germany), Karo(Germany) and Barak(Israel). There was also another 4x4 with us that had 7 people in it. We would be going everywhere and camping ...
