    Very hot. Garmin read 42•c in sun. Pretty canyon pass and surrounded by mountains which were snow capped. Long roads and more I80. Feel I earned the Dairy Queen stop and one ice cream was not enough. Had to at least try the milkshake. Then one flavour of milkshake was not enough. Uh oh I think it's turning into an addiction... Casino for dinner. Early bed as back to back century days coming ...

    ... in an early heavy snow storm in the Sierra Nevada Mountains and nearly half of the emigrants perished - some resorting to eating their animals and deceased members of their group. It was horrific. We continued east on Hwy 80 and after crossing miles and miles of salt flats, we finally reached Great Salt Lake and the KOA Camp in Salt Lake City. Cost: $95.23 for 2 nights.     The Silver Queen Saloon and Hotel is an active hotel. Restored to its original Victorian splendor of the 1880’s. Located in the bar is the ‘Silver Queen’ herself. The 15 foot Belle is adorned in a gown made with 3000 silver dollars. The skirt is 8 ft. wind and a belt encircling her trim waist contains 28-twenty dollar gold pieces.

So after driving over the Bay Bridge and out of San Francisco, we had an introductary talk by our drivers, before stopping to get ready for our first night drive.
