We were on our way from Ligonier to Bedford, PA along route 30 when we saw a sign for the National Park Service memorial to Flight 93, the plane that crashed near Shanksville on 9/11/2001. We arrived there late in the afternoon and had only about an hour to explore the fort and museum. As you can see from the pictures, it was a lot different than Fort Necessity. ... with houses with enormous yards. This actually bothers me more than the trailer park--at least the trailer park provides homes for people in a space efficient way... this development looks like a squandering of a precious resource on huge yards that people really aren't going to use for anything... Veering off to the west is my next town: Newry. This town wins the prize for Shabbiest Town Hall. It looks like a little old church ...

... it is a Civil War monument and a monument to the the pioneer family with the father holding a gun and the mother reading the child a book. Sort of the stereotypical image we like to preserve of the first white settlers. Incidentally, I learn, Logan Valley is actually named after a Native American leader who lost his role as chief because he lost his eye due to an arrow. He was friendy towards the colonists ...
