The Tale of the Meet and Greet

... talk—they are great people. Unfortunately for Tom and Karen, Pam and I didn’t just talk birds, we also talked academia. And academics can talk academia for ever! It’s fascinating talk too—I assure you of that.

As we sat outside in the lovely cool weather, we noticed all the golf carts going around and around the park. Cruising as Karen said. But by 10 pm, it had evolved into some kind of ...

The Trip to Hodgenville

... 8217;s property but the tree is gone and site closed off. The only other thing there is Nancy Lincoln’s Inn that has some food and a little souvenir shop. It has been open since the 1920s so it’s a historic site too. You can rent a small log cabin to stay in too!

We headed back to the rv park, suitably educated, and I wanted to stop at a small cemetery that I’d seen with a historic marker ...

Labyrinths and Peonies in New Harmony

New Harmony, Indiana was a Utopian community, established in 1814 by a group of Pietists from Germany (EfMers, year three IS relevant!). The original "Harmonists" created a charming and very productive little town on the banks of the Wabash River in southwestern Indiana. When they left another group of Utopians, the Owenists, bought the town and tried to make a go of it. Didn't work for them ...

Day 1 - Through the mountains

... and all of the sudden, Beth yells out "KANAWANA" and point frantically in front of us! Well, I thought she saw a rare WV deer and slammed on the breaks. It was a sign and inside joke with Kirby HAHAHA! I am still not sure but it was a sign for the Kanawha River. We wish everyone well!! Beth and Tadd

A lazy summer afternoon

We reluctantly left this great hospitality at nine this morning (the other cyclists had left at 5:30 to do the same distance). Another good days progress was made and, to the horror of Hodge and Tom, we spent the night at a camp site at Rough River. More swimming in the river and a lazy afternoon in sun was enjoyed by all ...

Elvis spotted in KY

... Elvis lookalike and all. The second lunch was enjoyed by all given that it was not bought on our budget! We proceeded to spend the next 4 hours in a rigorous match of Four Square (the local game that Pastor Bob introduced us to). Supper was even better than lunch and we were treated to our second serving of vegetables this trip, while we exchanged stories with another ...

DAY 6: Ohio-Indiana-Kentucky-Indiana

... warnings of floods in Illinois/Missouri in the area of St. Louis city. They were saying that there were some heavy rains in recent day in the southern parts of the state, while some snow is melting in the north. We saw some effects on this - level of water in the Ohio river and some others is pretty high, some cornfields were totally flooded as well. We decided to ignore the warning and drive in direction of St. Louis. At least for now. We stopped in Cincinnati, OH for a tea ...

Finishing School

Well, it's finals week at USI (University of Southern Indiana) and it's my last week here. I can't believe that I'm graduating already. This Winter break my family is going on a trip that will probably be our last big family vacation for a long time considering the fact that I'm going to medical school next ...
