... I woke up with a bit of a cold on the Sunday but that didn’t stop me from heading out, I had already arranged to hire a car for the day, I decided to go to the town of Silverton only 25km away and popular for its replica mad max car and features in many shows and movies. Personally I was a bit disappointed, I had high hopes but it’s a very small town with just old buildings just randomly scattered around.

So after a quick tour of Silverton I headed another 6 ...

An early morning walk around took in the many hotels of Broken Hills early mining days and the monuments to the miners and band members on the ill-fated Titanic.

The owners thought that this piece of their history was something that future guests would find fascinating so they displayed several framed newspaper articles of this fire all over the walls in the lounge. Possibly not considering that all future guests, like us, might think "shoddy workmanship kills us in our sleep!" and then not want to stay or even ...
Broken Hill, New South Wales, Australia mrsdp... view taking in over 70km to the horizon. 16km from where we were standing is the NSW/SA border, just below is the road where the Mad Max movies were filmed and also where the bus on Priscilla Queen of the Desert broke down. Back in Silverton, a disused mining town now set up as a 'museum town', we visited the pub outside of which sits a replica of the car Mal Gibson drove in the Mad Max movies. On the ...
Broken Hill, Australia trenfield5... to stargaze, it really is magic. Its been 8 hrs since i left sydney and im starting to feel uncomfortable. I had a huge night out lastnite and can feel my chest burning from the cider i consumed. Slammers beer and cider is a killer. Im switching off now hoping to sleep through the rest of the night. 6am the following morning and The sun has risen. Im feeling pretty good apart from the grubbyness and stiff legs, but yea i think today is ...
Broken Hill, Australia driffting_welshThis mining town has the longest running mines which are still operating and even experiencing a boom (not very noticeable since all the pubs were closed early). As an aboriginal inspired project they've got several sculptures in the "living desert" which were made by some international artists (mainly from Georgia during their war). We liked the angles of the sun but some of the others were a little difficult to interpret. Mad Max II was filmed in Silverton, a small ...
Broken Hill, Australia sidom... our water run out - some five nights later. During this time we did an aboveground and below ground mining tour at Daydream Mine which was privately owned. This was the highlight so far of our trip, so the kids say. It was cramped and dusty conditions these minors had to endure to get lead, zinc and iron ore. Most of them in the earlier days died from lead poisoning and emphysema.

Our landscapes range from the rugged beauty of the Mutawintji National Park to the tranquil waters of Medindee Lakes. Our architecture ranges from the Victorian grandeur of an age past, through the monoliths of the mining industry, to cut timber ...
