Snow Canyon State Park

A little state park in Utah. Not much to see by car, as most "attractions" are reached only by hiking a trail. We did the Petrified Dunes trail, as it is the "famous" view of Snow Canyon.

Initially, I wondered what on earth made the dunes so scared, i.e. petrified? And how could they tell that the dunes ...

The Land of Canyons

... most amazing views. From Cape Royal you see Angel's Window where you glimpse the Colorado River and follow on to Cape Royal which was impressive. To see the Grand Canyon properly it would have been nice to hike down and stay a night in Phantom Ranch. On the drive home there was a spectacular sunset.

The following day we had a rest day and did washing.

The final day we headed back to Bryce Canyon and did the Fairyland Loop which was another great hike. Backroading in Utah - Did we really do it?

... of the city of St. George. It wasn't clear from the placement of the numbers, which one was the campground and which was the distance to St. George. We decided to go straight ahead as it was indicating the destination of St. George thinking that it would lead across a table land on top of the red cliffs and come down into the town. Instead we traveled the back side of a number of mountains, climbed to a considerable elevation (must buy an ...

Competing with Easter and Spring Break Travelers

... rigs that are now traveling together found space in a park (?) just out of St. George. It seems that this site started out with good plans, ended up selling some of the lots and now the developer, a new investor/manager (?) and these site owners are all involved. Some sites are vacant but not available, some are in rough shape but all have services so we decided to book ...

We visit Zion National Park

... up the end of the canyon for a while but it was very exhausting, so after a quick trip to the Zion Lodge in the middle of the canyon we headed back on the Park bus to the carpark and after a hotdog in a local café pressed on for St George. It was 106F when we got there - opening the car door was like opening an oven door. We're at the BW Coral Hills - which is a classy BW with an indoor and outdoor pool. We made it out to the external pool and a combination of pool time ...

this is the place

... population. the temple in salt lake city is obscured among corporate office blocks and other such concrete. there is a developing and healthy arts scene, much of which the stern Brigham Young would not approve of. Utah is still the place for many. My own epic journey into Utah - sixteen hours on a greyhound - took me from Santa Fe to Albuquerque, then onto another bus prone to overheating that trundled across the desert to Flagstaff California, then onto another bus ...

Journey Finally Begun!

... We've been driving forever!" "Are we going to get to Costa Rica today?" I'm grateful for technology and our new DVD player- that helps the time pass easier. We relaxed in the hot tub when we arrived at our hotel, then tried to go out to eat, but everything was closed! So we ordered a pizza instead. Tomorrow we'll head to Zion National Park, and then maybe to the Grand Canyon. Livin' the Dream, Baby!

Kingman, AZ to The Virgin River Gorge, AZ

... back out the way we came in and proceeded straight to Vegas. We did not know of too much to do in Las Vegas. We only wanted to spend the day there so we parked on the north side of the strip and spent about four hours walking down and then back up the strip admiring the architecture. Not exactly your typical Las Vegas trip, but then again we were both more interested in seeing more rural and back-country scenery on this trip. We ...
