... left Sydney Tuesday 7th and most of the day we ran around Newcastle fitting last bits and pieces but somehow it still felt like the adventure has started! Got as far as Taree and looking forward to an early start tomorrow - destination Yamba. We are finally on the road.......yeeeehaaaaaaa!!!!!!!
taree, Australia hindmarsh... Port Macquire we decided to drive through the Waterfall Way, a road lined by a spectacular set of World Heritage-listed national parks, and by... you guessed it... waterfalls. This meant we would do a several hundred km detour, so our expectations were high! We were a bit disappointed when we pulled at our first stop at the Bakers Creek Falls only to find they were dry, we were seriously disappointed when we got to the even dryer Wollomombi Falls (one of Australia's highest ...
North Haven, New South Wales, Australia aguas... it, an awesome place to stop. We headed back mid afternoon following our footsteps, well the ones that hadn't been washed away by the turning tide. By the time we got back to the van we were knackered but very pleased with ourselves (a) for proving the Tourist Info guys wrong and (b) for not getting lost in the miles of sand dunes! We drove up the coast just to get a few more k's under our belts before the end of the day and finally stopped at a town called Taree.
Taree, New South Wales, Australia willndebs... Elenborough Falls. The highest waterfall in the southern hemisphere, a 200m drop. The whole east coastline seems to be dotted with lighthouses where generally you get a good view of nearby bays. So on our second day in the area, we drove up to Crowdy Head which is just down the road from Harrington, in Crowdy Bay National Park, and got out to inspect the local lighthouse. The region has rocky headlands, one after another, dividing the bays. There are ...
Harrington, Australia cnnnewsSydney to Woy Woy to pick up Connie A slight delay as we detoured to the jeweller to pick up Connie's remodelled ring - as we were leaving the crowded carpark she exclaimed "he's done a good job, but it's not my ring!" An hour later (having returned the ...
Hannam Vale, Australia blossiesydney... of the sea I eventually 'navigated' my way back to the start point much to Mark's relief. It was now time for some leisurely diving. Sharks. Great to chew, even better to share. No wait, that's wrigleys chewing gum. Everybody loves a good shark tale, and although mine doesn't include Great whites, lost limbs or Roy Scheider it was fascinating nevertheless. Whilst we watched a turtle of about 1.5ft across glide about us, three leopard sharks, the largest of which was about 8 to 10ft ...
Byron Bay, Australia jen_and_chrisWell my first go at surfing was absolutly brilliant. I loved it!! I took the Oz bus from Sydney to camp, a long 600km drive. No distance at all to the Australians! Me and the rest of the bus group had a lesson on the sand, first we were lay on our boards pretending to move our arms in a swimming motion and then we practiced the manouver from when the wave hits the back of the board, 3 more paddles of the arms and then you have got 3 moves to stand up it ...
Surf Camp, Australia jadenshell... t been mentioned for a while is the small red bites that Laurie found on his feet the morning we were leaving Noosa.....we now think that they were bed bug bites (eugh!) and they had erupted into really itchy angry red lumps the size of peas and were all over one of his elbows and all over both legs and feet. They were just terrible. We pulled off the highway to visit a tea tree plantation and bought some lotion from them which ...
South West Rocks, Australia lolandlaurie... After one go, I finally gained confidence so I started to unleash the kid in me and had fun in the sand. It's just like going through those giant slides. But the difference is you had to sit on a sandboard, lean back and let your hands plow through the sand as you slide. Plus you get free powder and maybe a sand shower if you hit down hard :). I had a few of those and even had a taste of it.....it's crunchy, I tell ya...haha :) The only ...
