... here in the south it is almost entirely Caucasian.

We pack our bags ready for the rather long flight. Although Porto Alegre is little more than a hour away by air from Iguašu, there are no direct flights, so we have to connect in Sāo Paulo.

We take a last look around this attractive town, enjoy a full buffet lunch for just Rs.14 (US$3.50), and then take the bus to the airport. The ...

... after an excessive breakfast – would much rather pay less and just have some good croissants & coffee, but forced down a toasted sarnie, 2 meringues, a macaroon and some melon before the 10.15 bus back to Porto Alegre,

Back there by lunchtime to find the tourist office shut so faffed around trying to extract bus info I could understand from the 2 available operators. By then, ...

Not surprisingly, the car they allocated to us was exactly the one we said NO on our online negotiation via email a month ago - a Celta lixo ST. Luckily, a decent car was being handed over at the very same time. So, we rented this ...

... bonus. I think we crossed the border around 1:30am. I didn't have to do anything but felt the bus stop for about 25 minutes. EGA had kept my passport and took care of the border formalities returning it to me in the morning stamped. We arrived into Porto Alegre just after 9am which means I missed the 9am departure executivo departure I was optimistically targeting. To be honest u think it had sold out anyways. I had s little ...

The most important part of the day was watching the Arsenal game vs Chelsea and luckily our hostel had it on and unfortunately we lost. Chelsea probably deserved it but I can’t believe Arsenal didn’t get a penalty when Fab handled in the area although Wenger pushing Jose made my day. We spent the rest of the day doing a huge walk around Porto Alegre. We started in the old historical area and we saw the ...
