Sovereign Hill

Off to Death Valley!

... longer than expected due to one of the speakers propensity to orate way, way too long. What was sad was that she didn't have much of relevance to say. Because we were so late at the graduation we were unable to attend Kari's graduation party. My son Daniel met me at the Orange County airport. Him and a friend of his named Wayne had driven from Indiana in Daniel's Jeep. The Jeep was loaded ...

One day, and self reminder.

... to energy there must have been a battle I couldn't have been at today... for the energy didn't seem light enough for me to battle on my own". I thought how much I despised this feeling. But knew I felt okay once I went further and further away. I ended up at park I never really been to but always seems to pass by when I was on the train heading to the city of Melbourne. It was a botanical garden and I saw an elderly man sitting on a stool, under a tree painting ...

Melbourne

... a very interactive sort of Bingo with 2 hosts (dressed in Bogan attire) and several audience members in full costume (flannel shirts, bleached 80's jeans, flurescent work shirts). Each number that was called out had an expression or song attached to it (For ex. the host would call out "sweet 16" and then say "never been kissed"...the audience then responded "pigs ass" (pigs ass=what a lie) or any number ending in 1 the ...

More of Melbourne

... einen Haifischkopf an einem Stab zu kaufen (Ihr wisst schon, wo man das Maul von einem Ende aus bewegen kann?! Sehr furchteinflössent), aber mich doch dagegen entschieden. Onward, back through the park, along Spring Street. Passed the beautiful old Windsor Hotel. I hear they have great 5 o'clock tea. Walked by the Parliament building, which really just made me think of running stadiums. In front of the City Museum I hopped on the FREE circle tram and made my way back to the tram home ...

It was the week before xmas

... So lil and I put on xmas carols and danced around (or beside seen as its 2d) it. We are amused at the number of emails we are getting with the question: are you sick of each other yet....We cant get sick of each other because we are the closest to family we have here (okay Lil has her Bro and Dave, but still) So we do fight , come on living 5weeks and spending nearly every minute we are awake together , we are bound to get sick of each other ....but now we have become like ...

The extreme benefits of off-the-road travel

... no internet cafe. None. I am not joking about this, there is one hostel which is really just a cool old-western hotel village with barracks, but have not internet here. So the two young monash geologists who are here to research volcanic activity asked me the same question - what the hell are you doing in Ballarat? So I hung out for a day, and caught the train back to Melbourne. Seriously though, it's like going to Alberta and hanging out in Camrose. Nothing.

Hiking The Pinnacle

... the night before, this time in the hope we would see some original aboriginal rock art. The art is very difficult to date, but it is believed to be around 20,000 years old. The aborigines are one of the first cultures to express themselves using art. Our first visit would be Ngamadjidi Shelter (the art was produced in rocky shelters). As the shelters are off the beaten track, we ended up driving along dirt and gravel tracks. On the way to Ngamadjidi we got our best photos ...
