      ... br> We are not only going back to where San Diego started, but also the birthplace of California. Discovered was it by the Spanish and we were up at the Presidio – the first military base built by the Spanish in 1769 – they also built a mission at that time (there were 21 in all in California, but we skipped this one). On the plaza we visited today was the first American flag raised in 1846 by a US lieutenant.

      ... t do anything too hectic and headed for a farmer's market in Little Italy. The hundreds of stalls all had amazing samples and we love our samples, so instead of buying lunch we just stocked up on the freebies! At 4pm we set off to Tijuana in a group of 20 and a guide from the hostel.       ... magnificent sunsets.

      The weather was holding for us even though the evenings were cool. We spent our time walking on the beach, catching up on our reading, and taking endless pictures.

      Richard and Melanie took us on a guided tour to a nearby marsh where there were many birds we had never seen. The best of my pictures are shown in this blog.
