Our next stop is to Kansas City, Kansas where we will be visiting Daniel (brother) and Ricky (brother) and the rest of their family. The drive from Wichita was very quick since we had a tail wind to the car. Daniel lives in Shawnee, which is a suburb just outside of Kansas City. We will be hanging out with his family the most, his wife Renee and sons Tai and ...
Kansas City, Kansas, United States qpoal0198... butt across five states until stopping in KC.
We arrived around 4am. I got up around 7am to capitalize on any time with my sisters, nieces, and nephews. Brett slept in until around 12nn. We ate breakfast and the kids played for a couple of hours. Then it was on the road again..
So the Journey begins! The day of travle is here and we awake to Jackson tapping us on the shoulder....."Guess what today is...it's NEW ZEALAND day" Couldn't be more excited!
SB was her usual stressed self on the day of travel, and other than ME leaving my laptop in the terminal in KC (I did rememer it half way down the jetway...) we figured it was better than leaving a child behind!
Packed pretty light, all ...
... Saturday and then on to Chulu...Once I'm settled I'll start updating this blog.
We did find out that Chulucanas is honoring GHM's 20 years of service on Sunday morning with a big church service with the Bishop, flag raising, parade etc. Should have some great pictures and stories from this! We'll have to take a break from all of the unpacking and set up but I'm sure it will be worth it.
Keep our team in your thoughts and prayers!
... your fingers that they release it!
The supplies I'll be carrying down with me are mostly additional vitamins, some more children's tylenol (hopefully not much of what we sent is subject to the recall), and other over the counter items. I'll also be taking a lot of stickers, bubbles, balloons and other items to entertain the children who will be receiving care or waiting for family members to be treated. We ...
We continued driving through Nebraska. At Grand Island, we headed south into Kansas. Just before the Kansas state line, we stopped in Red Cloud to see Willa Cather's childhood home. Kansas involved another two-lane road with very few towns or traffic. We were going to stop in Kansas City, but went on to Cameron instead.
Cameron, Missouri, United States tabbles... for our encore “This Land is Your Land” was local philanthropist and patron of the arts, Julia Irene Kauffmann. Julia spent the first 14 years of her life in Toronto, Canada singing in children’s choirs and becoming a very talented pianist through studies at the Royal Conservatory of Music. She has always been interested in the arts and through her family foundations has donated millions of dollars to the construction of a performing arts ...
Kansas City, Missouri, United States motabchoir01... I am still not packed. I have things lying around, but not organized yet. The worst part is packing a carry-on bag. I won't see my other luggage again until we arrive except for a 5 minute period waiting to go through customs in Bucharest so I have to pack a lot of stuff in a little bag plus my computer (since I am the data collector). We all carry 2 suitcases. One for your clothes and personal items and one full of ...
Shawnee, Kansas, United States mshields007... a quicker option, but as long as I didn't have any other option I decided to sit back and simply enjoy the scenery. I found Martha's place quite easily because of Google Earth. Martha and I went to a BBQ place for lunch and visited there and afterward. It really was too bad that we didn't know she lived there when we were in Rolla a few years ago on our way to Branson. I know Tami would have enjoyed visiting with Martha. After our visit I headed for ...
St. Joseph, Missouri, United States montgomerylane... Sunday! Maddy (the dog) will no doubt enjoy the change of lifestyle and the better leftovers since Travis actually cooks (as opposed to single-handed support I give the local Houlihans). My tickets for this trip are actual paper tickets. I can't remember the last time I traveled with a paper ticket and hope that losing one is not like losing a dollar bill- gone forever. United ...
