... traffic lights, here people stand in the sweltering heat (95F) holding signs with one side "slow" and the other side "stop". It took a bit longer to get to the beach, but we had enough protection with us to keep us from getting sunburnt. When we arrived at the State Park, we were welcomed by a friendly official, who confirmed that the entry fee had not changed in 2 years. We paid 8$ for entry and parking. We didn't have to wait long for the tram to take us to the ...

I was awakened in the early morning (0300 or so) with severe pain in my right hip --- the same location as the hematoma that hit me Thanksgiving that caused us to abandon our planned cruise board Rhiannon. Oh well it was a fun ...

... cruise lecturing. Finally, Ft Lauderdale, and an ugly example of the US Federal budget mess. Immigration officers cut back, working to rule, and 2 1/2 hours to go through immigration/customs. 2800 very upset cruisers, cursing in many languages. Many of whom missed their connecting flights. We were very fortunate, and merely (finally and complaining) hopped a cab to Avis at Pier 66 to pick up our rental. Upgraded to a new Ford Escape, so ...

... delicious bacony scrambled eggs and tea (of course). We made a plan to get a few key essentials we were missing and found ourselves being watched by 4 beady eyes...a raccoon and her cub! Cheeky things eventually went away but not before going twice round the tent, up and over the picnic table and them into someone else's pitch to check for left over morsels and scraps. The squirrels here are also very 'friendly', choosing to play attack death kill with ...
