Just a day out, a Winter Wonderland
... to buy a ticket, WOW, the underground travel is really expensive here, unlike India, China (max price there was about 50 pence) but there was similarities, it was standing room all the way, no one gave up a seat, no eye contact, everyone had head phones on or was texting, a blank look on most faces and not a word being spoken (apart from the driver telling us to 'mind the gap’) things hadn’t changed since I last used the train

Meeting up beforehand it became pretty clear we hadn't really discussed how much we were thinking this would cost us and when we would go, we were just more carried away with this idea of escaping and seeing more of the world. So after a quick chat we decided we should maybe also get STA to price up our dream trip of all the countries on route we could feasibly go, this included spending some time ...

As I wrap up my European journey, I want to thank all of you for following along and giving me a reason to document it all.
I wish all of you a very happy festive season. May this year's best be next year's worst!!

Historical Traveler Reviews Shaftesbury Premier London Notting Hill
GREAT little hotel - could not have been better !!!
What a great little typical English town house hotel !!! The room was not huge but really fine for us - and we were not travelling light ! The hotel is very clean and housekeeping attentive to detail. Most of all the staff were super-friendly and eager to help us with the smallest thing on our first visit to Europe. We toured Europe on our trip but, of all the hotels we stayed at - including the 4 stars type -I remember Comfort Inn Bayswater most fondly and we will be happy to go back there as soon as we can afford the trip again !! WELL DONE !!
Yet another great stay A++++++++++
Well I am most happy to inform all the people that write such, bad comments regarding this hotel. That yet again I have visited and could not find fault. Ok the hotel is not the Hilton, Marriot or Four Seasons. But after spending another 2 nights at the Comfort Inn Bayswater I can not complain.
If you feel you shoudl be staying in a 4 or 5 Star hotel, stay away from this hotel and leave it for the people who enjoy it. For such a bad hotel (as some comments say). It is always full booked, and every one I come into contact with gives it glowing reviews.
Yet again many thanks to the management and staff and of course I will be back.
P.s I love the new room soft furnishings.
Many thanks
Quiet location, economical rates
I stayed at this Hotel last year. Though the room was small and compact, but very clean and comfortable. The hotel's location is just short walk from Queensway with so many shops and restaurants. Hotel is on a side street and with no traffic to disturb. I will stay here on my next trip to London because of its location and economical rates compared to other central London hotels. All staff is very polite, friendly and helpful.
Poor Service
I manage hotels for a living and have managed Comfort Inns for the past 5 years. I have never been treated as badly as I was at this hotel. The room itself did not exceed expectations, but was adequate. The service, however, was intolerable. Our "special rate" didn't include breakfast (a brand standard to be a Comfort Inn) but they failed to mention that until after serving a $24 breakfast. The "special rate" also didn't include heat. They had turned it off for the year. And no, they don't have extra blankets. In our 4 days at this hotel, the staff never even rose to rudeness, they just were indifferent and unresponsive to every question or request. When we asked for assistance in mailing a picture home, we were told to arrange it ourselves. When we asked for a phone number we were told we had a phone book in our room and we should look it up. I was actually afraid to go "bother" the desk when in fact, there was no phone book in our room. Every request or question was met with annoyance by the staff.I'm sorry to say I would not recommend this Comfort Inn. There must be hotels in London who understand hospitality and who would appreciate your business.
You mean the DIScomfort Inn?
I am a reasonable person and therefore, do not expect luxury at a 3 star hotel. I do, however, expect basic, clean accomodations and decent service. I recieved neither. The rooms were small, even by european standards. They tried to pass off a twin bed as a double. We even had to measure the beds to prove our argument! The bathroom smelled like raw sewage. There were blood stains on the pillow case and the bedspread. The coffee cups and spoons in the room had clearly been used. And the management? Indifferent at best, but generally not helpful. So, if you're thinking of staying at the Bayswater Discomfort Inn, save your money and go to a hostel - it'll probably be nicer.
Excellent location, good hotel
It is interesting to see the opinions fo those staying in a hotel you are going to stay on the site. If I would have known about this before probably I would have made more queries. I am surprised to see what the other ones are saying but this hotel. I just stayed here and I had a very good stay. Come on, what would you expect on a three star hotel?
If you want luxury you book a hotel at an above category than this one.
The hotel is clean, the rooms are pretty, clean bed covers and bed linen, clean bathrooms, serviced every day (should you need extra towels, soap...) they offer you. The staff is very nice and friendly. I really felt very well, it was one of the times when I didn't realise that I am alone (I travel a lot by myself for business). The location of the hotel is excellent for transportation and what is very good is that the area is quiet, you are not on the main road to hear each car passing by. Lovely hotel, excellent hotel, I will stay again.
Friendly staff, Quiet and Great Value !
Beautiful garden square and lovely real English town house hotel - totally different to what I am used to - but the staff were really friendly and so helpful with everything I needed on my first visit to London. It was really quiet, exceptionally friendly and very clean and, best of all, very, very reasonably priced ! I could not ask for more.
Extremely poor service and room size
I travel over 30 weeks a year, and this was one of the worst hotel experiences I've ever had. the double room was unacceptably small even by European standards, and service was nearly as poor. Dial-up connections were non-working, the front desk had no additional blankets for my very cold room, and the front desk couldn't even schedule a cab at the right time and destination. Avoid this hotel!
Great Location, Nice Staff
I have stayed at this Hotel Jan 29, 2004. While the room itself was quite small and compact, it was very clean and comfortable, provinding a very nice restful night's sleep. The location is really great-just a short stroll from Queensway with many shops and restaurants, and there are two tube stations on Queensway, basically taking you everywhere within minutes. On Bayswater road you can take the 96 Bus direct to Oxford Street or Picadilly Circus. Also on Bayswater there is the bus Stop for the A2 Bus from Heathrow Airport, which is an economical and practical way into town if you land at LHR. The location of the Hotel is on a side street and a large green square with almost no traffic.
Very pleasant stay and nice staff that were always thre to assist. I will be back there-esspecially since their rates are so economical for London standards
Run away!
I stayed here for 2 nights in September 2003. I am very disappointed with this Comfort Inn. The room was dirty, there were cockroaches in the bathroom. I would kill them and the next morning there were more!
The coffee cup and spoon were filthy on arrival, I set them aside with a note to replace, and they put the same dirty cup and spoon back on the tray! Yuck! I had alerted the hotel that I would be arrivng early the next day, but had paid for the prior night. I received an email confirmation of this, and when I checked in they had cancelled our reservation since I didn't check in the night before. I showed them their email of this confirmation, and they were able to get us a room again, but what a hastle! They are very disorganized. Find somewhere else to stay, this was very disappointing.
