... up to Calico by the KOA staff. Calico was a silver mining town in the 1860's. At the height of the mining rush 1500 people lived in Calico. Now, there are 9. It was restored by the man who built Knotts Berry Farm in LA and he gave the town back to the state. We had a look at the all the little shops, the old school house, went on the ...
Barstow, California, United States youngsinusa2009We headed out about 630 in the morning. Jono, Michael, Steve and I met a the Chevron down the street from my house. We decided to go north through Pearblossom and the Mohave Deseret.

Headed north on the 15 toward Las Vegas and stopped here in Barstow for breakfest.
Barstow, California, United States hawgbound... decided to sip on the camelbak water (desert makes you feel thirsty just looking at it). Hmm, nada. So I stubbornly decided to just go on, there aren't great shoulders here (try none) and I was comfy enough. At the motel, I discovered that the tube got twisted; there is a first time for everything. Just one more thing to file away, esp. when I am nearer to Phoenix and points south where you can count on needing the vest and the water to keep sane.
Barstow, California, United States visionrider... and it cost us $18 to get in. We could take Pasha in also as long as she was on a leash. We did see another dog or two there also. But for future reference, I wouldn't advise it in that kind of heat.

We parked and entered the outdoor oven to explore the little mining town which was preserved by none other than the Knott family, known for Knott's Berry Farm. So it did kind of have that theme park ...

It was windy and felt like a hairdryer !!!! Tour was great and explained what happened and ...
Barstow, California, United States andrewkinseyLeaving Hollywood Christina, Brook and I hit the famous highway 15 en route to Las Vegas, a trip millions of a LA and Las Vegas residents do regularly. It seems to be a break from each other's cities madness and the norm.

Brook entertained us with his random lyrical outbreaks and the sound of nails bashing into a water bucket. Brook was working on his Art project for the week, which was designing a pendulum lamp; it turned out ...
Apple Valley, California, United States cmedancing... miles from anywhere - there were a 100m between petrol stations and then they were glorified petrol stations with rail tracks near by. The trains ( union pacific, amtrak etc) were nearly a mile long and harry counted over 80 trucks on one. We also passed Edards air force base and saw lots of military adn civilian planes. We arrived hot and tired to our campground near Calico and Yermo right ...
yermo, California, United States otley-groom... a Ghost town (a mining town in 1880). We felt that we were cowboys and miners for an hour. Will keep you posted Have a nice week end everybody Remy and Arnou Familly
Barstow, California, United States remyarnouIn true single girl fashion, what other way was there to spend a Saturday night and Sunday then in a ghost town in Yermo, California? Clearly, there are PLENTY of other ways to spend a weekend, but none as randomly spontaneous and fun to document as this excursion was for us city girls. After being cancelled on by some of our friends, we determined that a random road trip was the only way to cheer us up. Hmm...we thought, where can we go that will be fun, not a ...
