Apache Trail - Cowboys and Indians

A travel blog entry by jjmeef

... just to marvel at the scenery. We stopped for lunch at the Apache Lake Resort, which was like something out of the movies - very casual.

It was a very narrow, curvy road with hairpin turns, with deep ravines either side. Roosevelt Dam was pretty impressive. Amazing too that Roosevelt himself made it all the way out there for the opening ceremony. We crossed the bridge and back again, then started the drive back to Phoenix on regular highways. We passed through ...

You Just Couldn't Make This Stuff Up!

... We had written an extra twenty miles to find an RV Park (needed clothes washing) in Coolidge. Here we met Miss Onery. "There aren't any RV Parks in Arizona that would let tenters stay in them!! You have to be totally self-contained." "We'll, that's interesting, we've stayed in several others and they were quite accommodating." "Not in Arizona!" Where to go? Someplace close and interesting---someplace we hadn't seen yet...

Always a sucker for scenic roads, we took off east to Globe. While not what you'd call picturesque itself, the road there goes through the beautiful Queen Creek canyon.

Bob says it's 80 miles of driving for 2 miles of scenery ...

Peralta Trail

... whole lot of nothing.

So, at the end of the day we were only richer in photographs and success! We traded our hiking shoes for flip flops and made the 20 minute drive back into the city! Will we do Peralta again! Heck yes!! This is definitely a spot that I'll want to bring anyone who comes to see me in the desert and I'm really looking forward to going there on my own one of these days during the week when no one else is around!
