If you are wondering what the pic is about - it is the kids' drink cups that are lined up on the Kitchen Bar benchtop with their nicknames scribed on them.
... Fried Pies. The staff was very helpful and they made these interesting fries pies. Soooo, of course we had to purchase a few.
We learned that the Fried Pie Lady [Nancy] had a grandmother who made these pies originally for the Arbuckle ranch hands in 1893. They were so interesting, and smell so good that as Jim navigated the twists and turns on scenic Route 77 for about 5 miles, Clare downed a warm one. Ummm, Ummm....Great ...
... When we arrived and went to pay we were told it would only be 410 for us both because except for admission everything else was free. Stomp dancing at the theatre was 1st on the list and I joined in a couple of dances. Only the men sing, but the women keep the beat of the song with amazing shakers strapped to the calves of their legs. When I had the opportunity to look more closely I found they are made of tins about the size of Gravox jars, 3 stacked ...
... we then made tracks towards Navy Pier. It's basically a fairground, shops, restaurants and bars all based on a pier on Lake Michigan. It's a busy, bustling place full of families enjoying the weather. We stopped for a drink at a perfect spot at the end of the pier to view the impressive Chicago skyline.
We wandered along Michigan avenue towards the Chicago Tribune building. The outside walls are decorated with stones and rocks from famous buildings ...
... many birds flying low and in circles....that should have tipped us off that there were many bugs in the area - Mayflies!! Yuck! They don't bite but they do stick to you! We made it through the swarms and saw a beautiful sunset over the lake.
Back at the lodge we fixed paper plates of meat and veggies (leftovers in the cooler) and the girl behind the desk warmed them in ...
