After a 45 min wait on the Tarmac due to air traffic congestion we were on our way for the final leg. These long flights (approx 14 hours) are never easy, but I had two polite and considerate young men sharing my row. The drive from Tullamarine was smooth and relaxing with a more responsible driver this time. ... Myki cards which are the equivalent of Oyster cards and are valid for use on trams, trains and buses. The station is about a 10 minute walk from the accommodation and is a direct line to Flinders Street station right in the heart of the city. ... worked well, but just occasionally Gladys is bound and determined to have us go in the opposite direction. Maybe it has something to do with Australia being in the Southern Hemisphere, after all their toilets do swirl counterclockwise! Leaving Geelong for Melbourne was a real battle of wits with Gladys until finally Paula turned her off and we just relied on my excellent sense of direction and Paula's map!

It's very rare that anyone in the uk helps someone for no reason but Matty did, made us feel at home and became a good mate. This was also shown by Zoe Letting us take the sewing machine away as we hadn't finished with it and to bring it back another time. ... done. In the week I spent there, I estimate I completed a total of about 6 hours of volunteering. There is definite potential though, so I'd love to go back in a few years to see how things have progressed. On the plus side, the absence of work allowed me plenty time to explore the island and learn how to ride the motorbikes that apparently all Indonesians travel on.
