Another long driving day to reach San Diego.

Saw many stockyards full of thousands of cattle. We are sure they are processed for meat. Not the most pleasant areas to drive through due to the strong odor. Can not begin to imagine what is like when it is REALLY hot!

Arrived just in time to have a light dinner and crash...

We started the day with a drive from Silver City NM through the Gila National Forest to a remote National Monument. The National Monument is the home of the Gila Cliff Dwellers. We hiked to where the cliff dwellers made their home in the caves. There were 6 caves in all. We were able to climb to the caves and enter all but one of them. . Tuesday, April 2 – We woke up this morning to another wonderful sunrise looking out at the mountains at City of Rocks State Park. Fred and Carol from Maine who had come in yesterday came by in the morning to say by to us. They were headed for Arizona and it is unlikely that we will run into them again now since they will be ahead of us by a week. We have seen them now five times from the Panhandle, LA, TX and then here NM. Nice ...

... is water soluble and normally snow in the mountains carry the rocks into rivers and then out to sea but there is no river draining from the Tularosa Basin.
