Middle of nowhere...pretty spooky no ranger, no campground host, no information or directions posted except don't shoot your guns and keep your dog on a leash. So we stayed couldn't figure out where or pay or how much so Grady asked another camper and they said they thought it was free. The camp was called water canyon and was next to an observatory. No complaints they had clean bathrooms and everything worked out ...
... Ford, taking it easy. Means nothing to me but apparently the lyrics from a song by The Eagles, Take it Easy. Cue more cheesy photos!
From Winslow it's on to the Petrified Forest National Park. A scenic drive through plains and valleys with colourful rock formations, provide plenty of photo opportunities. The Petrified Trees are various old logs turned to stone over many years, it's a fascinating thing to see, some of the trees are ...
... thrill and steal of the trip!!
I figured Dick and Jean would probably still be in town, so I called them...at the ACE Hardware Store a few blocks away. I told them to come over to the town square because I had a story to tell and something to show them. They came, loved the story, the price, and the cranes!
We returned to ABQ and they to TorC.
BTW, no photos...but be sure to come over and see the cranes when I get home!

We had a lovely and very healthy lunch at a picnic pot with tables before we got back on the rad heading to Carlsbad. This drive took almost 3 hours too and the only diversion was spotting f elks in a snowy landscape as we drove through Lincoln National Forest. Very ...
... we were to the Petrified Forest National Park, and decided to head in that direction, as we did make good time, arriving to Holbrook, much sooner than anticipated. When we got to the park entrance it seemed like our best bet would be to return tomorrow morning before heading west toward the Grand Canyon.
So we called it a day in Holbrook and will be having another big day of travel coming up tomorrow!
