Well what a day! We were out the door by 8:30ish. Stopped in the Dalles to see Jess and the grandchildren. It was so good to see them. The kids are growing so much. We then headed east in the sweltering heat. Thank god for AC. It's been a while since I've seen the east side of Oregon. It is absolutely beautiful. We landed at Wallowa Lake State Park at 5:00. Kids set up camp while I cooked a pork tenderloin dinner. Nice relaxing evening under the stars ...

And the reports were true. This is an enormous property with an air museum, space museum, theater, and water park with the 747 on top of it. We could have spent more than the couple of hours we had to go through the entire facility. Harlan will write more about it, as I’m not ...

... very, very knowledgable about wines, doesn't use enzymes or modern yeasts, uses the Old World methods. He goes to Spain, France and Germany every year to make wines over there, which he ships back to sell and trade with his fraternity he belongs to. He likes the Tempranillo grape, which he uses a lot either full on or blended. We bought a bottle, Fleur d'Umpqua, that is 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Tempranillo, and terrific! Oh, ...

    Overview of David's Trek

... probably didn't register. The trek up Kilimanjaro is a climb not a hike. You walk on, over, around and between rocks. There are no flat areas. There are areas where you use your hands to climb and it is all pretty much either up or down. Elevation impacts all segments of the effort. Obviously boots are key, but so are gloves and physical conditioning. It is pretty easy to over estimate your ability and under estimate the difficulty of the climb.
