Day 3 Memphis, TN to Hot Springs, AR
Today turned out to be a really good day. I can't really say what gave it away that it would be a good day but it was as I was starting to feel by about 7:30 this morning. I just had a feeling. We were up way too early in the morning and I got a running start. We headed down to the ticket center at Graceland and they started selling tickets at 8:30. We were on the 9am bus to Graceland where we were given our headset to wear around the house and grou...

Today we got up early again, perhaps around 7 am EST 6 am CST. While out roaming the parking lot here at the hotel I found a geocache just by speculation and was correct. I then got on the website and found a total of 4 caches here in the local area. We then went and explored the Hot Springs National Park starting at Bathhouse Row, then heading to the visitors center and explored that bathhouse, as they had it preserved the way it was back in the time. We...

... and spinach. "This spa serves the best food. There was a person straight camping camping next to us. Tarp overtop rope between trees, hammock underneath, pack on ground). Certainly would be a challenging way of traveling but also light and free.
Unfortunately, we woke up to rain again this morning. Raindrops hitting the plastic roof and rolling off of Lola sounds like a rainstick. I went to scope out the outdoor morning and found a really cute rock path that crossed a ...
... baths and are washed, steamed and massaged by an attendant. It is a very unique experience but also relaxing and enjoyable.
The mineral waters here are of high quality and you can drink them straight from the ground, the centre of town has a mineral water fill station where everyone, from near and far, brings their bottles to fill with the hot mineral water. It tastes really good and isn't too 'minerally'.

Arkansas is all about Water, Rocks and Mountains!! There is water everywhere!! -- including in the air! It started raining at Heifer and it hasn't stopped. It sprinkles and mists then does a down pour and then back to misting. Not the greatest for sightseeing or doing our usual kayaking and hiking and biking. But....this part of Arkansas is all about HOT water! Bubbling out of the ...
... my parents didn't even know I was in Arkansas).
The plan went off without a hitch (except for going the wrong way on a bypass once), and my family was very surprised. Luke and Jenna ate dinner with us and then kept going on their way. We stayed at the lake house until Monday afternoon, swimming and watching movies and eating burgers, then I finally headed home.
We got into Hot Springs, Arkansas around noon yesterday. From the plane all you see are hills and green. Being from Miami.. that's a lot of green.
My two great aunts, Mary and Ramonita, were already waiting for us when we landed in the private airport. On the way to Mary's house all you see are tree's and randomly placed houses. We drove through "downtown" and Ramonita started complaining about the ridiculous traffic.. which was like ten cars on the road. I couldn't help but laugh ...
Hot Springs is the bathing capital of the world. Old documents show that American Indians bathed in the hot springs during the late 1700s and early 1800s. Some believe that the traces of minerals and an average temperature of 143 degrees Farenheit give the waters whatever therapeutic properties they may have. Today, people still come to Hot Springs for therapeutic relief.
Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas, United States socks... Hamilton Lake. · Visitor Center - Very modern and not unlike any other except for the sidewalk around it. Similarly fashioned to the Hollywood sidewalk of Stars, this one bestows honors to those Arkansas natives that have become famous i.e. General Douglas McArthur, President Bill Clinton, etc. A unique and impressive endeavor. Things we Learned: · There are three types of law enforcement personnel: 1. Police investigate crimes, provide evidence, keep tabs on ...
Hot Springs, Arkansas, United States jimcabay... Row has a 'penthouse' floor that is exclusively for guests such as President Regan. Fortunately the Row itself was saved from demolition and redevelopment in the 80's and it still undergoing extensive renovation. We sampled the water - freely available to all - in fact something like 700,000 gallons are 'consumed' each day, but I have to say it was - just like hot water.
