But that created the urgent need for a dam, which created the Hoover Dam in Black Canyon. The Salton Sea became a resort area with upscale communities springing up on its edges, but as the sea has no natural influx, it has receded over the decades, leaving it briny, unfit for fish or anything else, and the towns virtually abandoned. Interesting to see them, but pitiful just the same.

After a few photos outside of the restaurant, we loaded up into our cars and took a short drive through downtown Phoenix before heading onto the highway 10 westbound then via 85 to I-8 towards El Centro.
