Seward to Anchorage on the Alaska RailRoad

WE arrived Anchorage from Seward at 10;30 PM on the Alaska RailRoad. The scenery is beautiful from the train and it was a very comfortable. We enjoyed the trip. It was raining when we departed Seward but had stopped by the time we arrived in Anchorage. We checked into the Comfort Inn for our stay in Anchorage. The Hotel was close to the train depot and they had a shuttle to town which we used instead of renting a car. Since our flightseeing tour had been canceled in Seward our first order of ...

Made it to Anchorage

It's been as very long day of travel with a 6:00am flight out of Dayton. I arrived in Anchorage at 5:30pm local time (it is a 4 hour difference).

I decided to try some of the local fare as I was ready for some "real" food and tried a little seafood place recommended by the girl at the front desk. I tried the broiled Alaskan Halibut and it was very good.

I walked around town a little bit, but am exhausted from the travel and the time change will have me messed up.

Relaxation day

I rented a bicycle and headed to one of the many riding trails today. This place is a bicyclist's dream with miles and miles of trails. I took the Tony Knowles Coastal trail which runs right along the inlet. Moose have been knkown to show up on the trail, but I didn't see any. I did see a bunch of sandhill cranes. These birds stand about three feet tall and make one of the strangest sounds I have ever heard. Of course being the aviation junkie that I am, I thought it was cool that the trail w...

Homeward Bound

Took the train from Talkeetna to Anchorage yesterday...another nice ride. We saw a moose as we crossed through the grounds of Elmendorf Air Force Base. It was dark and rainy so no pictures of him.

I am now sitting at the Anchorage airport waiting for my flight home. It will be a little more pleasant as for an extra 10k frequent flier miles I was able to get first class seats for the return trip. That will be nice on a red eye flight (I hate these overnight flights...)

Historical Traveler Reviews of Comfort Inn Anchorage

I'm staying under the bridge down by the river ...

from JNW
Literally, you are under the bridge by the river, but there is no van or Chris Farley. I had a large room on the third floor - much larger than what I expected from a Comfort Inn. I doubt all rooms were that size. I had no trouble with noise and the hotel was is easy walking distance to the downtown area - although the staff were more than willing to give me a ride to and from there. Prices were reasonable. I stayed four nights and by the fourth morning the complimentary breakfast had lost most of its appeal. The maid service was less than perfect, but the service at the front desk (and access to the Internet) was quite good. When I reflect on my trip to Anchorage, nothing about the hotel comes to mind - exactly what I would hope for from a two-star hotel.

Satisfied customer

I have stayed at Comfort Inn for several trips and have been very fortunate with each stay to experience quality service. I have been grateful for the type of service because it has allowed me to relax and enjoy my trips without stress. I plan to continue to stay there and look forward to my next visit there.

Perfect Stopover !!!!!!

from CommercialBanker
great stopovers between rail trips to and from Talkeetna and Seward. Clean rooms and helpful staff and worthwhile continental breakfast. Walking distance to the train station although they have a shuttle if you need it.

Good Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
We stayed at this hotel in early June for two nights. We were honeymooners in Anchorage for two days before boarding a southbound cruise out of Whittier. This was a nice hotel. Clean, friendly, nice location. The creek or river right behind the hotel is a hot spot for Salmon fishing, there were always people out there trying to catch fish. We had a jacuzzi room and it was awesome. The jets were great. Our first night there was our first experience with Anchorage daylight. We were amazed when it was 12:30 at night (or in the morning actually) and it was still completely light outside. There are thick room darkening curtains in the rooms so the daylight wont bother you but it was fascinating.

I would definately stay at Ship Creek again.

Very Pleasant Stay At Comfort Inn Ship Creek

from A TripAdvisor Member
Just spent 3 nights at this location, the Inn was clean, the Staff very helpful and cooperative. Breakfast was standard but adequate and plentiful.

Shuttle service to shopping area always available.

Airport Shuttle runs every hour to the Airport and will come anytime for airport arrivals. Hotel was always filled to capacity. Make prior resevations.

The weather added to the enjoyment, sun every day, high 60 - low 48.

A Pleasant Stay at the Comfort Inn at Ship Creek

from Rosebud9802
My family and I stayed at the Comfort Inn at Ship Creek for 2-nights in June. The hotel is in an excellent location if you want to go fishing. There is a creek right behind the hotel, where guests can go salmon fishing. The hotel lends out the fishing poles and there is a shack that sells licenses. It was about a 15-minute walk to the farmer's market and in the same area there are restaurants and shops.

The hotel provides a free airport shuttle and the continental breakfast, which included biscuits and gravy was adequate. There was a small pool, fitness center, and business center.

The only negative about this hotel was the staff seemed not too friendly, but not completely rude. The hot tub was not working, as there was not even water in it, only a caution sign.

Overall, our stay at the Comfort Inn at Ship Creek was pleasant and I would recommend this hotel.

Nice rooms, but service needs some work

from A TripAdvisor Member
This hotel is very nicely decorated and maintained. Our room was enormous with plenty of room and comfortable bed. The problem was the construction directly outside our window started at 8am and was so loud we had to leave out the room. I let the clerks know about it, and how unbearable the noise was but they just shrugged their shoulders. Also, a coffee pot in the room is great, but cups would have been even better! :)

Horrible C/S

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I stayed here for a couple of days and checked out, and returned a couple of days later for 2 more nights. I had reservations for both stays, but when I returned for the second stay I was informed my rooms had been given away and there were no more vacancies. The only explanation I was given was that my credit card was denied, even though my bank had no record of them attempting to run it and it worked fine for the previous stay. I was left to find rooms elsewhere on a late Fri. night with a family in tow. The worst part was that I couldn't get any information on why this happened. My theory is that someone showed up willing to pay double so I got fed some B/S. I wouldn't stay here if the rooms were free! This hotel ruined what was almost the perfect vacation.

Clean rooms

from A TripAdvisor Member
The motel is on the water although not as peaceful as advertised pictures will lead you to believe. It sits in a tucked away industrial corner of the city. The rooms are very nice, the breakfast is great, a nice money saver. Bagels and muffins, hard boiled egg, fruit or make yourself a waffel, yum. The hot tub was not working when we stayed but it was in process-- looked nice. Over all I enjoyed this motel, it was a nice change from the typical alaskan pay twice for half.

A hidden gem

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having stayed at most of the downtown area hotels , i decided upon the Ships Creek Inn - I will be checing in again next week.Located on a quiet side of town , and next to the creek it was a great location. The lobby was warm, inviting and cozy ( a log cabin feeling ) rooms were clwean and spacious and pool area was also clean.Breakfast was above average for type provided by most hotel chains -
