This is an ideal location to stay in LA with easy access to all the sights within a short time. it is also only about 30-45 miutes from LAX. The rooms were clean with good size bathroom/toilet. We only stayed for one night and didn't use the outdoor pool. We would stay here again if visiting LA.

Hair on my towel
this was teh worst hotel i stayed in. The room didn't smell "non-smoking", the heater was super loud, there was a blond hair on my supposedly clean towel, and the hotel is open to any bypassers, I did not feel safe.
Would never stay here again.
Would stay again.
We had a group of us - 6 rooms - at this hotel for 3 & 4 nights the last week in December while in Santa Monica for a funeral. For the price we paid, about $90 per night, it was a decent enough hotel & we would go back. Did not have complaints about our room & none of the others had complaints other than the room was a bit small. All the rooms had a refrigerator. We had a large room with 2 queen beds. There was also a small table & 2 chairs, & a small sleeper sofa in the room. Because there were 4 people in our room, the check-in attendant offered us a larger room without us asking. Did not see bugs in the rooms or stains on the sheets or comforters. Although one of the nights, the fitted sheet kept slipping off the corner of the bed. I have seen better continental breakfasts, but theirs was ok to get us going in the morning. The AC/heating worked very well, & was good enough to drown out any outside noises. Made the person making the arrangements aware of the previous 2 postings on this site about bugs & stains. When brought to the attention of the hotel management, they let us know that they were rehabbing the rooms & replacing the toilets as well. We could tell that the couple of rooms we personally saw had been rehabbed. The TV in our room worked ok, but the remote was worn & some of the buttons didn't work. There is a small elevator in the hotel. Which was helpful for some of our group because we were on the 3rd (top) floor. The hotel personnel we dealt with were curteous & helpful. Did not have to pay for parking. When we checked in, just filled out the car info & they gave us a permit that allowed us to park in the lot. They also had a number of parking spots that were indoors. I have stayed in better hotels/motels & have stayed in worse, & for the price & the area would stay here again.
I recently took a trip to Southern CA. It was disgusting. The sheets were dirty and the breakfast was stale and sparse. There were stains all over the comforter. As I was packing to leave, I saw fleas in the bed. Really unsanitary. Don't stay here!
Good location, beds not very clean
Stayed two nights. Rooms are of a decent size, nice TV, high speed internet works with no problems. Neighborhood is a little sketchy, but I didn't feel unsafe or anything. On the second night, I noticed there was a few stains on the sheet. Then my girlfriend found a bed bug in the sheets too, and would only sleep on top of some towels that she put on top of the comforter. We noticed another guest did the same thing, not sure if it was for the same reason, though. Would have been a nice stay if the beds were cleaner.
More Than Expected
Simple and basic. Cheaper than we expected for Santa Monica. Our room was more than large enough on a corner. Clean with a decent breakfast. All different kinds of people coming through there, but still felt safe. Good location within 15 minutes driving of Santa Monica Pier, Beverly Hills, Farmer's Market, the Grove, Westside Pavillion, Third Street Promanade and Hollywood. McDonalds right across the street. An added bonus was the tour we took of LA picked up and dropped off right at the front door! We would probably stay again for the price!
Did the job
We wanted cheap digs near the beach and shopping, and the Comfort Inn Santa Monica fit the bill. We paid $125 for a double on weekends, about $117 on a weekday. The hotel could use a renovation, but everything seemed clean. The pool, also, was nothing luxurious but clean and pleasant enough.
I wouldn't say anything in LA is "easy driving distance" but we had simple enough access to the beach, hiking, Farmer's Market, Beverly Hills, shopping, and plenty of good inexpensive restaurants.
If you aren't picky and are basically looking for a place to crash and shower, I recommend the Comfort Inn.
Very happy with comfort inn
I was recently travelling alone in Santa Monica, doing research and I decided to take a chance on the Comfort Inn. It was very reasonably priced and was in a good location. I wasn't sure what to think because I couldn't find a lot of reviews, and none were really stellar. However, I was so pleased that I decided to stay there, and would definitely do it again. If you want a hotel by the beach but don't want to spend $300/night, I highly recommend this place.
I was worried about travelling alone, and so finding a good hotel was important. The area is a little dicey if you're walking around at night, but I think anywhere in the LA area is like that. My room was very clean, and the staff was really nice and helpful. The complimentary breakfast was very good and fresh (which is not always the case). I didn't have time to enjoy the swimming pool, but it looked like it was well taken care of.
The hotel is conveniently located near the beach, which you can walk to or take the bus. Local transportation is surprisingly easy to figure out, it's incredibly cheap, and the hotel provides transit maps. I highly recommend the Santa Monica Pier, and there is good shopping nearby. The Getty Museum is also relatively close (about 45 min. bus ride with 1 transfer, or about $15 taxi), the exhibitions are wonderful (and free), and the view is amazing as it is on top of a mountain. I also spent a day at Disneyland, and chose a tour company that picks you up at the hotel. It took an hour or so to get there and the price was only about $100 which included park admittance, but it left late in the morning and came back way too early. The hotel suggested them, and I would look into another company if I were to do it over.
The hotel doesn't have a restaurant, but there are 3 good Asian restaurants across the street (I highly recommend the Japanese place on the end for good and cheap sushi or noodles), and there are some fast food places and family restaurants within a block or 2.
stayed at comfort inn santa monica a few weeks ago. noticed ants on the bedside table and also in the bathroom. there were hairs on the sheets in the bed. will never stay here again.
Okay for the money
Stayed in this hotel for two nights in the end of August, 2004. We were on a roundtrip and stayed in L.A. one day and two nights. Don't stay longer, it's not worth it....
The Comfort Inn is okay, staff was friendly, breakfast is.... better go to McDonalds, there you'll get a more! But I favor the hotel and not the Days Inn just one block away, cause the DI is dirty and old!!! The Comfort inn is clean, has a small pool and a lighted parking area right next to the rooms.
Santa Monica is really close and the way to the stars is easy to find, cause you are already on Santa Monica Blvd.
Love at first sight, until we paid a second visit...
Well, the first part of my holiday in L.A. was spiffing, we stayed at the comfort inn for a few merry days and then we visited las vegas, we were pretty delighted with our stay at the comfort inn, so decided after we came back from las vegas we'd stay again.
We checked back in at the comfort inn, and they gave us a room, by the pool, at my request.
We opened the mouldy coloured door, and to our horror it revealed a room, which smelt damp, and had not been hoovered, my relative pulled back the sheets to discover a hair and a peice of rolled up tissue beneeth them, to top it all off as we tried to plug in the television, my fragile mother received an electric shock, and on our way out the room, i spotted another hair laying beside the lamp.
We asked to be moved, but the room we were moved to wasn't great either.
We went out looking for other hotels, but unfortunatly they were all sold out, so we were stuck in the damp comfort inn, with very old decorating, i had to keep telling myself it's retro darling, retro.
Breakfast- Toast, muffins, tea, coffee, apple juice or orange juice, bananas and peaches, cakes, and cornflakes or frosties.
Get there early if your chlosterphobic, to get a table outside, because the actual breakfast room is a very tight squeeze!
The one plus is that you are rather close to restaurants, shops and hotels, for a quick escape.

We had a great day in Holywood today. It took about two and a Half hours to get there from Santa Barbara, the LA traffic is horrendous. We were surprised hoe inexpensive it was to park up on Holywood Boulevard just $8 for the whole day.

We left Brisbane at 11.15am and arrived LAX 7.00am. It was a fairly uneventful trip, with little sleep had by any of us. We were quickly through border security and customs and by 9.00am we were heading for Santa Monica in our Chrysler Town Country seven seater minivan. Its huge and with leather seats, DVD players and arm rests we should be quite …
