      ... to relax. Viewed Puget Sound and snowed covered mountains from the Parlour Car meeting up with two attorneys from New York who were following their musician son around the States. As the white wine kicked in they began to loosen up. We had conversation about many things including politics, life and religion. Most interesting people. Also shared lunch with them in the dining car.

      ... in the morning nearly until noon… then it becomes sunny. So was also today… by the time we arrived at the New Brighton State Beach – the sun came out. Here they are cutting down trees, so it’s a first come first serve after 2 pm … if you come earlier you go on the waiting list but you have to wait until 2 pm – not one minute earlier!!

      ... stands as a great monument to the American dream of advancement and achievement. Well done them. Our tour of Alcatraz was the other activity which was on a par with the Bridge crossing. The vital information: - Alcatraz is a small island, sitting a mile out proudly in the middle of the bay - uninhabited now, but has multiple buildings in various states of disrepair which serviced its most recent use as an island prison in the mid 20th century (closed in 1963). ...

      ... collection of impressively large coastal redwoods that I've enjoyed over the years. After a drive through the park we drove to the end of the Santa Cruz Pier and viewed whales spouting and sea lions and seals hauling out on the trusses under the pier.
