Day Seven

Wow, what a day. We left Iowa at 6:15 am, headed out to Madison via US 90 and on the way discovered that 90 was closed due to flooding! We hooked up with the Cherry Bomb rig; figured out a route and rode in to Madison via Rt 14 around 11:00am. Filmed the photo shoot for the 2009 Cherry Bomb calendar and hung out in the booth with Stacey David. Cherry Bomb sponsored the final night with dinner and an awesome cover band. We hung out a little to fo long tonight (hey, it's the final night!), but ...

Cheese Heads

We left Chicago for Wisconsin Dells. Unfortunaly we had poor weather and had to retire early due to severe thunderstorms. It hailed alot and we had tornados in the area. The next day we decided not to go to the waterparks in Wisconsin Dells and check out Madison instead before moving on to Minnesota. We enjoyed Madison and had a good time walking down State street. We got some Jamba Juice and went in a few shops. We took some pictures of the Capitol and tasted some awesome Cheese. The weather...

Bad weather

Our plan after Chicago was to camp near Wisconsin Dells (The waterpark capitol of the world) and then go to Noah's Ark Waterpark the next day. As we were driving we noticed the sky was getting dark. We turned on the radio and heard there was a tornado watch for the area. After hearing that we decided a hotel would be best.
Again, Bryce sweet talked his way into a good hotel deal. So we sat in their mega hottub for a while then headed up to the room. When we turned on the news they were re...

... Wisconsin, we proudly donned some cheese heads and Sammy got his picture made with the giant farmer holding cheese and a sausage. You'd have to be there to understand. Minnesota has really taken on environmental issues with hundreds of huge windmills. The last stop of the day was dinner in Sioux Falls, SD. We ate at Bob's made famous in the Roadfood book. It was as described. We love it and the owners. Time for bed. On to Mt Rushmore........

Home again, Home again...it's been a year!

Wow, can't believe it's been a year since I left my house and moved onto the road. With hindsight I wish I took more pictures. I was in great places where I didn't document with my camera. Hopefully this next year I will be again motivated to write in this travel blog and take more pictures.

While I was in Madison I had a great time! So many good friends! I took photos of the Dairyland Cowboys and Cowgirls barn dance, the Union Terrace and ...

We rode for 630km today .... a bit more really because we did a few detours trying to find a place for a deep-pan pizza lunch (very difficult since most places are closed on Sundays, which we didn't know - or expect!) and at around the 200 km mark on my odometer, we found ourselves on the Chicago Sky route (this narrow highway 'bridge' with no shoulder) and so we had to turn off quickly to try and find any gas station or risk me running ...

In the state of cheese!

I spent most of yesterday riding the bus from the Twin Cities to Madison, and saw countless water towers and cheese billboards along the way. I knew I wanted to come through Wisconsin (yes, mostly for the cheese!), but I wasn't sure about Milwaukee - another large Amercian city to be seen between Minneapolis and Chicago. I opted to visit the capital of Madison instead, partly for its many claims to "fame"; most cyclable city, most pedestrian-friendly, gay ...

Home again Home again

From Roswell we traveled north through a tip of Texas. No photos but lots of memories of seeing and smelling cows in feed lots. We drove through a nasty little snow storm in Kansas City, MO. and I now know how well Shorty Too travels in the show.

Madison was significantly colder than NM, the lakes were ...

... of Washington, DC that I've been to. I did some sketches of the animals and I might scan some of them to add but they are a little disorganized. As I remember my two favorites were the kangaroos and the orangutans that had a scale in the cage and you could see their weight when they got on it. Also the ...
