    Day Trip to Milwaukee

A travel blog entry by carmandy on Oct 09, 2014

Walked to the Hertz office to find no cars available, so we decided to catch the train to the airport and get one there. A bit of a marathon journey, but finally picked one up about 10 and headed north to Milwaukee for the day, arriving just after 12:00. What a quiet city Milwaukee was. A little on the industrial side, and not many people around at all. Found the "Fonz" on the river ...

... The Loop is in the air - think the exact opposite of an underground, the thing is ancient and elevated about 3 stories high. On the subject of height, we caught this train to the Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), once the tallest building in the world and still today the highest in the Western Hemisphere. Chicago....amazing, overwhelming, efficient, wonderful skyline, polite inhabitants, super shopping. Highlights included a bus tour in the bitter cold sitting atop in ponchos in the rain, an excellent lake tour, drinking beer on top of the Hancock Tower 96 floors up, witnessing a marriage proposal and a Cubs game. We bought Levi's and ate breakfast at Lou Mitchell's, a Chicago institution as well as real Chicago pizza but after 2 days ...

    ...I did not leave Chicago

... intellectual property, so we had lots to talk about. He is an incredibly experienced traveler, and he told me all about seeking out engineering work in foreign countries! We had a nice long talk about the US energy sector, and how American politics are viewed in Europe (hint: they think we're idiots). It's been an incredibly draining day, but I'm hopeful for ...
