Went back into Death Valley again this morning. Walked two of trails that are suggested to be done before ten in the morning. Finished the last one at 9:50 and it was stating to get uncomfortable. I think it was showing 45 on the dashboard temperature gauge. Had an interesting drive to Bakersfield where we will stayed the night. At least the air con in the cars works but the cliff edge did get a wee bit close...at least for ...

... 90% of the land for conservation and the ranch and the other they will be using for Commerce Center, planned community and resort. Also along Route 99 into Bakersfield there were acres of pistachios, almonds, alfalfa and wine vineyards and a few oil wells.

... Road bet you can guess what they mine in Boron?! Further along the 58 we saw an exit for California City and a brown sign for Desert Tortoise Refuge. Both of us felt it was worth a side trip since it was only 13 miles. Five miles from the Refuge the pavement was exchanged for sand/dirt and the road got pretty bumpy.
