... We caught the bus to the middle of nowhere and hiked up the highest spot on the island, where we sat drinking tea listening to the local radio, hoping for the show. 2 hours later we gave up just as the rain began to start again and a mist engulfed the spot that we were standing on. So that was the end of that. We caught the bus back and gave up for that evening. <I think I should mention that The Lights mostly appear during 6pm - 2 am ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway ktandash... are on tap, the matter of fact answer is: "There is no demand so why waste good beer." And, good beer it is with distinctive malt and hop combinations. The Spesialol was my favorite. At 62 NOK (a king's ransom at 5.5 NOK to the $C), a sturdy pint was handed across the bar. However, off license beer is not sold due to some Norge rule or law or tradition. I never did get an answer. So it is off to the supermarket 100 metres down the street to purchase any of six varieties of ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway sinilintu... he had exposed his ears to cold weather. He didn't even wear a hat. I told him to put on his ear flap winter hat before leaving the hotel. He didn't listen to me and we had to get back to the hotel to take the hat and
the ears cover. That night, we only walked for a while. We had dinner in Peppes Pizza. The service was excellent, the staffs were nice and friendly and the food was yummi!!! ^_______________^
.
.
.<br ...
Tromsø, Troms, Norway cristinaw... 100m where there is no light, and feel around for thier dinner. I looked at the three meter deep tank these poor seals were trapped in and immediately started hatching aplot to set them free. I was forced to can the plot however, as the thought of a Norwiegen prison was a little too offputting. Finally the weather cleared and it was time to go looking for the lights. We booked a dogsledding trip at a wilderness center just out of town, and headed there on a the bus just after ...
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway jimborussell... would be to the airport. The girl said to ask a taxi driver. We spoke to a guy that said 200 at the most and he didn't think that the airport was open overnight so that was it. No sleeping at the airport for us. Cabins were good and we caught the taxi at 0530 to the airport which ended up costing 235kr leaving us only about 20kr for the 4 hours wait in Oslo but oh well.
Tromsø, North Norway, Norway leahandgreg... and above level. We finally found a place called the Grunder. It was a swank place, but had decent prices. I paid 112 NOK for something like a chicken pot pie - except it was 100 times better. Then we met the rest of the group back at the hotel and proceeded to scour the town for as cheap a beer as we could find. We eventually ended up back at the Barometeret, which the girls liked. I went home at 11:00pm, but the girls were still going strong.
Tromsø, Norway amadhatter... my butt bitten badly and then had my trousers attacked by a bunch of puppies. Katharine and Alex held younger puppies and then everyone went back inside the Sami tent and had milk, tea, coffee, and chocolate coconut cake (which was extremely good). After that..... Alex and I discovered the husky hot tub and Dad, Alex, and I went on a walk and tasted blueberries and cloudberries (I liked cloudberries more J). In all, it was a very nice day.
Tromsø, Norway oneyearaway... midnight sun as we were elevated above the city. This cruise aside, I did my usual wandering around and exploring, visiting the Polaria museum at the harbour which featured a dazzling 20 minute panoramic film on Svalbard. It really got the juices flowing, as did my visit to the interesting Polar museum that detailed various expeditions to the Arctic. I've not been this excited about going somewhere since I set off for New Zealand, some 18 months ago...
