Up and off to the bus station. Mary-ism #12: "Why must I bang myself everywhere I go?" She was referring to hitting her head on the bunk bed. On the way to the station, we popped into a bakery for some absolutely ****** pastries. One was croissant-like and dipped in chocolate. It tasted like a stale bun - I nibbled off the chocolate and threw ou...

Took myself for a walk this evening in the Old Town section of Vilnius. This is a lovely little city once you get inside its original buildings that are a mix of Gothic and Bohemian styles of architecture. Narrow cobbled streets run between buildings that come from a medieval age long forgotten here.
Of course to get to the Old Town you...
OK
The flight from Toronto to Helsinki was uneventful - which is exactly what you want.
Landing in Helsinki - the terrain around the airport is quite forested.
Had some time to kill in the airport - so I was happy to find a bright little corner where I could drink a latte and basically let my brain stay "off".

Tues 16 Sep, Vilnius Well last night we had a lovely room & a king sized bed. Again the doona was exactly the size of the top of the bed, but in this case there was also a bedspread on top of that that extended over the side of the bed. (Not to the floor mind, there is something like a step going diagonally up the side of the bed & the quilt is ...

OK, so for those of you who aren't in the loop, I got my required visa on the evening of the July 30, initiating the frenzy of getting my disposable belongings together to carry with me to Vilnius, Lithuania... (Yea you probably won't make the effort to go there. Ever.) I get to the airport within the gospel preached "at least 3 hours in advance...
Vilnius, Lithuania dhruvkFriday 30th May: Lithuania The coach drive into Vilnius was only slightly less daunting than its counter part into Riga. The less daunting nature however permitted a chance to appreciate the landscape as we drove. It has to be said; not being in fear of my life contributes to a much more relaxed frame of mind. Lithuania's environment has suffere...
Vilnius, Lithuania talamarkoRuta and I came to a conclusion that our Christmas, the way it had been, had been very pleasant. So we decided to do it all over again, after the same recipe. First off, being lazy most of the day, and then going out. With one difference that this time around we went just for a walk. In part, of course. As temperatures were still below zero, day...

Getting to the edge of Warsaw was complicated and all the people I spoke to had a different idea of where the best place to hitch from was. I ended up taking something like three buses on an outward and northerly path. When I finally got my first ride he just took me 2km down the road then let me out, which was good except that I was in a bad po...
Vilnius, Lithuania amullettThe bus journey from Siaulai to Vilnius was notable only for the scary driving style. Virg can be quoed as saying of the driver (as she pulled herself from the seat in front), "he drives with the tip of his c*ck". The TIP!!!? Not sure how this is more or less preferable than using the whole of his manhood or indeed if this is a direct Spanish tr...
Vilnius, Lithuania warmVilnius has become one of my favourite cities in Europe without question. This is undoubtedly because of the hospitalityclub.org (HC) presence in the city. HC members in Vilnius are just so active it is ridiculous: there are meetings and parties almost every night and they are lots of fun. It is because of them that my Lithuanian skills are flou...
