... colourful timber buildings (mostly in need of some upkeep) lining the main street. The village is set on a lake, with Trakai Castle sitting on an island accessed by two bridges. Entry was 8 euros each (about $12), with an extra 1.16 euro being required if you wished to take photos! Enjoying the sunshine, I walked back to the lakeshore near the island castle and treated myself to an ice cream before wandering back through the town to the bus station and catching the next bus back to Vilnius.

After a quick phone call to my dad for his birthday and a coffee, I went out into old town for a spot of book shopping. I wasn't able to find what I was after but I did find a book on Lithuanian history in English. ...

... I had my guidebook out but we only got 13 right. Rachel's team claimed perfection. I could believe that if the competition was about food. A bag of cappuccino candies was the prize. Guess I was taking too many pix and/or tuning out during much of Simona's talks as David carried the day for the good guys. I later found out we were not the only team cheating!

37k from Vilnius we turned off toward Trakai, on road 107 for 17k. Seeing the castle ...
