Still in a hotel Comfort Mayfair in Copenhagen as obv. finding accomodation not so easy til you get your bearings - so as I said we are near Red Light District which is fun to venture through & go to 'Spunk bar' (Spunk is a danish sweet!) & is a 'normal' bar for that neighbourhood - but at least we have a suite now for same price as an ordinary room (which was decent of the hotel) as we will be staying for a month in total here. The majority of hotels are based around there which a bit strang...
Copenhagen, Denmark danskgirlThey are great for the ole festivals here, this is the 2nd film fest. since we been here and if you know me you'll know I overdose in film festivals & then don't go to the cinema for 2 years. So anyway the CIFF was on the last 2 weeks of Sept. 06. Am big into Finland now as have seen a great Finnish/Swedish movie called 'Mother of mine', about the 70,000 Finnish kids sent to Sweden in WWII for safe keeping. Human Interest kind of thing - I wouldn't say there was a dry eye on the house. Then c...
Copenhagen, Denmark danskgirlApparently there is big house in Nørrebro (our neighbourhood) that's a youth collective (called Ungdomshuset) & is let out to students - but it's prime real estate & was sold to someone a few years ago who now wants to renovate & use it for something else, so the students have been given notice to leave. Naturally being students they protested (peacefully) on the Saturday of the last weekend of Sept. & that was all fine - but apparently one has to tell the cops 1st if one is protesting so the...
Copenhagen, Denmark danskgirlWell I think we managed to make the most of our latest visitors 20 and 21 TnA's 48 hours - in terms of hanging out together & letting them see the place a bit - they flew into Malmo & arrived in Cph around 4:30pm Thurs so C met them & I was home about 6 & then we went to Spiseloppen in Christiana for dinner at 8 as I thought it'd be their scene (& they loved it) & then woodstock bar and then a few beers at home but the girls retired early enough (well I had a 9am meeting to get up for), then ...

... the fried onions they put on the ristett hot dogs which was awesome.
Walking aroundHelsingor and sitting down to eat lunch there is a distinctly more laid back feel to the streets and the people. No one is in a hurry and there are no crowds.
Have never seen so many bottle shops in one place though...there is just about 1 every block!!
Tuesday I got to Statens Museum for Kunst nice and early... well kind of... I ...
... asked if he was Andre. The man said no and they walked away from each other. It was too funny and just what I needed, a really really good laugh. After venturing to the Airport we headed to the beach. We were fully clothed so we weren't going to swim but just look at the water and such. After being there for about 10 minutes we all wanted to go for a swim. So down to the underewear and out into the Baltic Sea for a swim. We were there for most of the afternoon ...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark mike81... insight that it takes to plan for such a long vacation. Next weekend - I promise - between cleaning the apartment, finishing some more work and making the home office look nice (right now we have paper and books everywhere - including on the floor)... Enough for now. I guess the blogs will get more interesting when I get travelling...! And maybe I should start writing in Danish...
Copenhagen, Zealand, Denmark evamarianne... ability is her Holland student Id card. This girl got past 3 countries this way - I really was wrapped up in a situation I wanted nothing to do with. Finally off the train and in Copenhagen, Denmark - I asked the first person I see if they knew where the Tourist info point is located, the signs that were located within the station seemed to pointed out into the street. A woman told me that it was several blocks away and they may not even be open. In ...
Copenhagen, Denmark jaywehrs... Chris and I decided that we should celebrate his going beardless in style: we shaved patterns on his face. I made a z in his cheek exclaiming "zorro was here" and Chris tried to make the center of gravity symbol which turned out looking like the rebels symbol from star wars. Braden fell deaf to our pleas for him to leave the patterns on his face for the night, and shaved. We departed the hotel once more to go in search of three bars Marianne recommended. The first was the ...
Copenhagen, Denmark tmcclurg... we did lots of sight-seeing from the comfort of boats. Some of the bridges were a tight squeeze and for many the warning 'Low bridge ahead. Keep your head down.' was highly accurate. Mid-afternoon we stopped on the other side of the river to the main city centre and walked around an area called Christiana. Quite surreal and eclectic - the area had banned motor vehicles, been taken over by bohemian hippies with a commercial need to pay the bills. Lots of fascinating ...
