Easiest way back to our hotel near the airport was a cab, so we paid the 68reais flat rate to the airport area and took off. ... before Brazil's 1pm kick off against Chile. The streets were deserted and with little choice of where to watch the match we were more than happy to laze around in the hostel to see the hosts scrape through on penalties, despite Hulk's best efforts to eliminate his country. We had a quiet Saturday night at a pizza place as we waved goodbye to a Suarez-less Uruguay, beaten by the impressive Colombia and James Rodriguez. Tomorrow we had Toga Day II to contend with.

Oh - I forgot to mention meeting Markus - a guy Steffen knows whose life revolves around going to football matches (and grounds even when there aren't matches). He has watched football in 136 (I think he said) countries and been to over 100 World Cup matches. Complete madness. But admirable. I expect to meet him again in Canberra for the Asian Cup in January.
