Apotekergata 1-3 Ålesund, Møre og Romsdal, Western Fjords, Norway, 6004
... dab in the middle of town is Aksla Mountain, a towering structure that begs to be climbed. With a three hour stop, the opportunity was too much to pass up. Once at the top, the view over the surrounding area is spectacular. To the west is the open Atlantic Ocean and numerous islands settled in ancient times. To the east are the so-called Alps of Sunnmore with sharp peaks rising straight out of the fjord. One of the peaks rises some 1,463 metres above sea level. In ...
Ålesund, Møre og Romsdal, Norway ehjelterNorthCape and Fjords visited August 3rd-16th aboard Fred Olsen's Balmoral Alesund is an attractive town with varied architecture on a promintory at the entrance to a number of fjords, surrounded by spectacular scenery. Climb to viewing point and cafe on hill above town to record spectacular panoramas.
Alesund, Western Fjords, Norway brian-chalk... Minutes and free repair service later, his glasses were like new, and Michael was all smiles again (and Larry too, a poopy Michael is no fun!). Back aboard ship we had pizza at the pizzeria on the aft lido pool deck, which was VERY good. Shrimp and mussel pizza, pepperoni and a slice of cheese. Just enough with out being fussy or over filling. We parted ways and I went again to the spa to relax, and fell asleep on one of the heated ...
Alesund, Norway ohiolairAnother place Google is flabergasted by: Flam. It tries to push some village close to Cincinnati at me. Incidently, it is Sunday, August 19th - half of our trip is over. The goat cheese we tasted at Oesterboe farm is not widely acclaimed by our fellow travellers but we love it. Like we love almost any cheese. Another nice show this evening but I forgot what it was: eventually we left our notes on board.
Unknown (to Google), Norway jirizThe next morning we are in Olden. The Google maps are trying to disallow "Olden" and substitute "Oldenburg" but what do they know? We were there! Quiet day on board. Interestingly, on this Italian ship, the pizza is very thin, single topping, but very good. No fancy stuffed crust or layered delights. Available pretty much all day long. In a homage to the American way of life there are hot dogs and humburgers offered non-stop, too.
Oldenburg, Norway jirizI had made arrangements to meet up with A in her appartment in Trondheim. I got on an expressbus and leaned back and tried to enjoy the trip. Eggesbønes - Ålesund - Molde - Kristiansund - Trondheim. The last leg should go by boat. I left my parents home and set out.
Eggesbønes, Norway wolfsea... point in Bergen. The roads are fantastic - long, winding and free of any traffic! Even in the van (which admittedly handles like a barge) it's a lot of fun, and the scenery is breathtaking. We've been camping for free each night, just pulling off into side roads and looking for quiet spots to hide away. So, each morning we've woken up to uninterupted views of incredible beauty with no one anywhere near. It hasn't been quite as easy to find spots as that sounds since Norwegians all seem ...
Alesund, Norway mark_and_claire... the vessel departure. In Alesund the fjord is soo thick that my GPS indicated me on the water We made a short stop in Molde but I did not have much time to visite Around 1h30 AM, we enter in Kristiansund by night. Due to the late hour, I was alone on the deck with the light of the city both on the air and on the water I tried another time my nothern light hunting but it became cloudy and I return to my bed around 3AM
Alesund, Norway worldtasteThe boys are back in norway and team random has been re-united yet again with some of its most important members. An appartment in Bergen is the new home of Mari, Mari, Ane, Tone, James and Jason.... quite fun with only 1 bathroom! James will nest here untill christmas and try to find a job while Jason will soon frollick his way around eastern europe to avoid the evil schengen visa monster from kicking his supple yet firm buttoks from norway at christmas time. WHAT FUN!
Bergen, Norway teamrandom... ride went for just over an hour. We saw the steep, towering mountains with altitudes of more than 1000 metres. On the sides of the fjord I saw many of the abandoned farms on the mountain shelves. Saw the waterfalls thundering down the mountains. The Seven Sisters waterfall is 7 waterfalls in one and they fall 250 metres down into the fjord, across from them is the Suitor waterfall. I really enjoyed the cruise and took heaps of photos. It was quite, as ...
